    Hey guys,

I see the Asus A8Ja has just been released in New Zealand, and I thought I'd post the details in case some of you were interested. I may buy this laptop, I've been tossing up between the W3j (unlikely to be released here), A8Jm (I guess this will be a no-show as well, seeing as we get the A8ja) and there are a few smaller models I've had my eye on, such as the x60s, the Acer 3012 and then theres always the iBook replacement....*sigh*, decisions decisions.

Anyways, without further ado, the A8Ja (ensemble, not whitebox):

    Cpu: 1.66GHz Core Duo
    Ram: 1GB (512x2@533)
    HDD: 80GB 4200RPM
    Gpu: X1600 - 512 HyperMemory
    ODD: 8x DVD dual
Screen: 14.1" WXGA (1280x800) Colour Shine

Bluetooth, 4-way card reader, 0.35 MP webcam, Intel High Def audio, blah blah blah

    heres a link: http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?74625

The best price I can find is NZD$3227, thats about USD$2000, BUT don't think that you'll be charged that much if you live in the states :) We get raped down here, for example, a W5f costs NZD$3700 (USD$2370) rather than the USD$1800 you would pay over there. At those rates I would expect an ensemble A8Ja (or perhaps A8Jm) to be ~USD$1500

I wouldn't give up on the A8Jm just yet, Catch 22. There are quite a few dealers here in Australia taking pre-orders for the A8Jm, for around $2800 AUD.

Bummer about the screen res, we've been hearing the A8J's may have been WXGA+ (1440x900)... Let's hope that Dragon PC is working off of preview specs. :(

i've been told by the asus NZ suppliers that they are pretty much insisting on selling the A8JC and the A6J and A7J's - my theory is that they want to reduce their stock on those models and its unlikely they will bring in those
    A8JA's or A8JM's.

All A8J's are WXGA (1280x800)... there were also rumours in NA long ago that they might be WXGA+, but no, they're WXGA .. sorry to disappoint you :)

ps. The only ASUS 14" I know that has WXGA+ is the Z62J, which is a Built On model, which I'm not sure if it gets released there...
