Hey
I know the pdf file was released on how to part the chassis and install bluetooth. I realize that some people have tried and failed only because the module and cable simply did not work once installed. I though it would be nice to provide everyone here with the correct cable and module (the ones they sell on estore do not work). I ll upload a video that explains how to do it in under 2 minutes. Does not require gutting the laptop at all. The link will be in the sticky above. The modules will be sold for 50$. We will not ship overseas please do not ask. I will have the video up in a few days. Anyone with questions please contact me directly. Once the video is posted we will have the module and cable for sale on our site in the parts sections

Lucky... Internal Bluetooth is the one thing I wish my Z33 had. I wish someone made a CardBus card that didn't stick out of the slot at all, that would do it...
I don't know if I'd be brave enough to take the thing apart to add it, even if I could... I'm clumsy, I'd probably break something. -

Actually the z33 is one of last years models that dont even allow an internal bt connection. z71v, z63a, z70v, z70va all did but the z33 did not.
-
I've seen people willing to loose an external USB port in return for tucking a USB BT key somewhere inside their chassis... But I don't know if there is even enough room inside the Z33 anywhere to attempt such a thing. I would assume not, if there was that much space left they wouldn't have used uDIMMs

haha
ye you have to take the z33 appart to see that there is no room anywhere inside. it is probably the smallest and best 12" in the world for the money it cost. -
Since MilestonePC is selling the A8Js with Bluetooth factory installed for the same price as this mod (which is likely to void your warranty), I don't understand the incentive to do it. Also, G2P posted somewhere that the Asus technicians won't know the difference between the factory installed module and his hack... but do you honestly think that the people whose job is is to deal with these computers day in and day out won't be able to tell something like that? Even if they couldn't they would just check the SKU number which is different since the factory-installed Bluetooth models are considered a special edition.

I will give you a better answer. Anyone that modded the bt with us and did not take our dealer warranty has my personal gurantee that if asus does not cover the repairs, we will. Needless to say i am 100% certain nobody there gives a dime about wether or not you have bt installed. So again i stress the point. There are only 2 dealer on the whole continent that are even able to offer this "hack". it took use more then 2 weeks and maybee 100 work hours to get it right. Anyone who claims it voids asus warranty should first make the hack then confirm that their customer had their warranty void by asus because of it. Until that happens i am going to say with 100% certainty that your a8j whether hacked by us or asus has 100% full asus warranty. The incentive to do it? It is cheaper. It is available now. In a week or so i will have the video on how to mod the a8js with a bt module out. People can buy the a8js and outfit them selves. Those who did not get the module can do it them selves as well in 2 minutes flat. You can buy the a8js now and fit the module your self later once i upload the video. Nobody has to wait a month to get their laptop. It is entirely up to you. -
and for all the people who already have an a8js without BT

I am working on a video guide to retrofit the a8jm or a8js now as we speak. it will take me some time to upload it. it will be available in the stick section above end of next week. One will need a pair of tweezers, a small screwdriver, a flash light, and the module with correct wire and about 2 minutes of time.
-
just curiously, do you know why the estore one doesnt work? wrong module?
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
Wrong cable actually. They dont have nor did they ever have an a8j cable. w3j cable and other cables look almost identical except the wire splicing. The wires are spliced differently on the a8j. Fairly easy fix after you destroyed a few w3 wires.
-
alright, thanks for your super duper update : )
-
Nice, Thanks for taking the time to do a video of the install Geared2play, for those of us who own the laptop without it, this will be nice
Plus, taking apart computers is fun
-

Dude its not fun when you have to take 50 screws out and then find the right way to put it back together. Also it is not fun to remove the warranty sticker to get the 50 screws out. This "hack" as someone called it will allow you to add the module in under 2 minutes and does not require removal of the warranty sticker. I dont know how many a8j sold all over the world but i can bet there are atleast a couple hundred people that would love to add the bt module on this forum alone without having to gut the notebook
-
Is this applicable for F3Jm/c models?
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
Yes and no. The bt module cable is also different for the f3. Though the module is the same the installation and splicing are different unless estore has the f3 cable already. Installing it on the f3 is possible but i dont have a quick fix for it nor will i invest any time into the unpopular f3 series.
-
Sorry to hear that. What's estore btw ?
-
Sounds good to me. Think I'll order one.

Canada doesn't count as overseas, right?
-

nah canada is our friendly neighbor.
-
friendly enough for discounts? JKS JKS : )
so it comes down to the way the wires are connected to the motherboard, where the variation lies? -
Quick and concise:
1. Can we get a direct link to purchase the module?
2. Can we get a direct link to the video (coming soon)
3. Please confirm my understanding. It's stated you don't remove any warranty voiding stickers. Worst case scenario should I have a (separate) warranty issue, I remove the module and the A8J will appear to be stock. Is this correct?
And #4.. thanks for the great work, it sounds like a win/win for all of us. -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
1. yes once i am done with the video
2. yes once i am done. Its pretty buisy now so i dont have alot of free time after work to do this.
3. no need to remove the module. You never put it in the first place if it comes to warranty. Now there is a chance you can break it while you are putting the module in but that is not my problem. Thats all on your head.

a8js bluetooth: http://www.sretup.com/geared2play/a8js/a8jsbluetooth.wmv
Sorry we will not have modules up for sale for a while. They are on short order. once we have more then just a few dozen here it will go up on our website. -
I just want to confirm that this will also work with the A8Jm. I know in a previous post, the A8Jm was mentioned but since the title of this thread only refers to the A8Js I am a bit unsure.
I am currently using a dongle but having an internal BT would be so much more convenient. -
Please update this site when you have some for sale. Im definatly in for one, i was about to go buy a usb bluetooth, but i rather do internal.
I assume that adding this internal bluetooth will make that button next to the Power4Gear button work too right? as well as the bluetooth LED indicator? -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
I cant gurantee a8jm. i simply dont recall. We never sold much of that model. You can open and see if it has that port there. If it does then it should work. We simply dont have enough modules to sell now. We have but a few dozen or so left and we are keeping them for system orders until we can get more modules and correct cabels. Once we do you will see them surface in our parts catalog. A word of caution. Dont try this your self until you have a CORRECT module and cable. If you know where to find them please let me know. If you decide to copy the video please feel free to do so without altering it. Obviously the video is not copy right but i do not want it altered or resized in any way
-
Thank you for this geared2play, you won't accept my Canadian credit card to buy the module but paypal worked
As a side note - I called the store and was told I cannot buy the Asus extended warranty from you, since I did not buy the laptop from you. Is this correct? When I spoke with Asus I understood that I could buy it from any retailer as it is an Asus warranty nothing to do with the vendor. (My vendor canadacomputers.com doesn't have this offer available to them). -
Eddie,
Any update on bluetooth module availability?
thanks! -

Ye i have a few i can spare for orders.
-
Is the pdf file for the bluetooth module installation guide still available for A8Js notebook?
-
Geared2play - I can't find a link to the device, can you direct link it?
-

Is there a separate forum price? The original post in this thread quoted $50, and the website lists at $69..

-
Geared2play.com - Do you have the pdf file for the bluetooth module installation instruction? I want to use that along with the video to install the bluetooth module on my laptop. If you do, that would be great, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

asus never made such a pdf manual becuase the upgrade according to them and pretty much every vendor (before me) was thought to be impossible. the video is the only thing in the world that tells you how. There is no video that expains how to make the cable correct but that is why we charge 69$ for the cable and module
-
Geared2play.com - I see ok thanks, I have a question regarding the video you made. It was kind of hard to see where to put the module into in the video, so will I be able to see where it plugs into after i have open it up?
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
only one place it can go into. shine th elight in there and you will see
-
just to let you know the cable that estore carry do work. Thanks for the great video! -

at the time i made the post tle here was no such thing as a bt cable for the a8js. other cables were modified. If they are our now that is great however a8js now comes with bluetooth. back then they did not. -
that's what i thought, even now, they dont offer bluetooth software for the a8js.
-
Geared2play.com - Thanks, I installed the bt module today and it worked great, i installed the drivers for bt that i found on asus's download page and it works great, the wireless console detected the bt module and the drivers/software that i installed is workin perfectly.

You may just be the first person to thank me even though this video had thousands of downloads and we sold hundreds of modules. I think telling people "this upgrade is not possible and takes hours to complete" would have been more gratifying. It's funny i still get people calling me questioning ig the module we offer on our website is really external becuase asus and their dealer told them it was not possible. makes me chuckle -
Geared2play.com - Well you did a great job with the video, so you deserve the credit and recognition. Thanks again
-
Does this bluetooth module activate the led light and bluetooth button on the a8js?
-
yes it does, its the same module that they use with the built in bt version of the a8js. just installed the drivers from asus website and the button and the light will work.
-
Thanks airdrew for the info...now i have to just wait for my shipment to arrive.
