I'm very disappointed, to say the least. The price difference of this laptop between Thailand and other Western countries is too much. Plus the Thailand version has lower specs.
Your typical a8jp would have 2.0 core 2 duo while Thailand's has 1.83. The RAM which is supposed to be 1 gig is only 512 in Thailand. And it only has 256 dedicated memory from the go 7700 instead of having the 512 dedicated memory. And you know what the worst part is? Thailand's version is more expensive to buy. If you convert Dollars into Thai Money (Baht), The typical A8Js sold in most western countries would total 47,000 Baht. But our version here, which has lower specs, costs about 58,000 Baht. Where's the sense in that? They're making the price higher in poorer countries. A lot higher I should say. With the amount of money I'm spending to buy an A8Js here, I could be buying it for an Asus G1 if I were in the US. Unbelievable man.

Order from overseas, and have it shipped. I don't know if that's legal in Thailand - you might want to check first, since notebooks usually have high tariffs/fees/etc.
-
Actually, that price is still cheaper than in sweden: 58,000 baht=~$1660, i got my laptop for 14000kr=~$2000 (I paid extra for insurance). And there are two reasons for it being more expensive in sweden:
1) The value of the dollar has gone down in comparison with the swedish crown and
2) electronics are more expensive here (probably because of taxes).
And are you sure about the a8js having only 256 mb dedicated video memory? i checked Asus's thailand site, and it said 512 mb. -
this is just market econ.
The reason the price is high in both sweden and thailand is the market there is small. The overhead is split in far fewer sales.
It is not a dollar ratio because it is imported from taiwan. It would be a taiwan dollar ratio.
If you were importing from the us, your strong swedish money would make it cheaper. -
Does this mean that buying an Asus notebook in Taiwan is cheaper than buying one in the U.S.?
Time to sneak a V2 past customs ...
-
actually our money isn't strong, it's just gotten strong er in comparison to the dollar. and about the market thing, you are right and i should know that! Actually i probably did, and just forgot about it (i do that a lot).

American Market has high demand quantity, that's why they get better price. Most electronic computer stuff in USA is way cheaper than other country such as Asian country. IN Vietnam , probably the price of that Asus A8 would cost up to 1700$
-
In Vietnam(or some Asian).the laptop with dedicated Graphic card is not common, especially Asus brand name ,they are enjoy IBM,HP,Dell,Toshiba,Apple.
-
finally got some real vietnamese post up the question. Hi-end laptop with dedicated graphic card is very rare, because the price when exchange to Vietnamese money is really high. You can buy a real good Honda bike with around 1500$.
Vietnamese prefer cheap and budget laptops normally subs 1000$ laptops. Usually Pentium M , AMD, Core Duo @ low mhz 1.6 512 ram and 60gb to 80Gb hdd. -
asus G1 in thailand 84000baht(2340 us$)
spec hdd 100gb 5400 ram 1gb < lowspec -
Asus notebooks are cheaper in taiwan and china. Not enough to fly there though. -
1 U.S. dollar = 120.5 Japanese yen, but Japan is still the most expensive country in the world to live in. -
Strange, I would have thought since Thailand is part of Asia, and Asus is located in Taiwan, that It would also be quite cheap. Here in Taiwan the A8js with bluetooth and a 120GB HD T7200 etc, is ~$1375 w/ tax. For a little while Asus was giving away external HD's and a RAM upgrade to 2GB's with this deal! I would have gone for it, but the build quality of the A8's never impressed me enough to pay good $ for one...

Well, if you understand chinese, ordering from Taiwan would not be a problem. The mainland charges more so it's better to order from Taiwan. AFAIK, the G1 in Thailand should be of Taiwan spec. i.e. screen resolution of 1280 x 800 and it only comes with lower RAM + lesser space. 84000 baht is a huge price to pay to be honest. Singapore charges around that price as well. It is almost obvious that the Malaysian specs wouldn't be any better and the price as well."Lucky me", looks like ordering online then...
