never heard of it, and unless it costs hundreds less than the A8jm (doubtful) i cant imagine why anyone would want it.

Usually AMD based laptops are cheaper than their Intel equivelents. This might be for the European market but since we didnt get the A8Jm i doubt it.

There have been a couple new addition of A8 models on the ASUS support site if you're looking for drivers, and I've Google'd a couple of them, seems like they're the Core 2 Duo versions of the old A8's. Prob this model also added recently...

What was wrong with it? Actually an AMD problem or just HP/Compaq?

it should cost a few hundred less than the a8jm its the trend for amd processors and no surprise the core 2 duo leaves it in the dust.

Any benchmarks, articles, tests, etc. to back this up, or are you just picking fights? Any first hand usage at all? Ever get your hands on one?

They're out there, just google it. Tomshardware did a review of a gaming DTR (I can't call that thing a laptop) with the fastest [email protected] and SLI and could only conclude that it was very CPU limited.

I think this is a good alternative. While it's common knowledge the Core 2 Duo on the desktop destroys the Athlon 64 X2, in desktops the divide is a bit smaller. Plus, given the word on the poor thermal and battery life characteristics of the notebook Core 2 Duo, the Turion 64 X2 could be a nice, cost-effective alternative.

I'm all for the Turion 64 X2. Admittedly I'm not hugely impressed with it, I'm not exactly hurting for a mobile Core 2 Duo either.

If the price is say, $1300 this is apealing.

This doesnt sound like a north american thing to me.
