I am currently torn between two computers: The Asus A8Js and the IBM thinkpad t60.

I can get both for around the same price, which is about $2000 CDN. I love the IBM keyboard and trackpoint. But at the same time, the asus machine seems to be loaded with much better hardware, and thus seems to give more bang for the buck. At the same time, the asus seems to be short on battery life, and also the screen appears to have bad viewing angles..

what are your guys's thoughts on these two notebooks? i need it for business school and i'd like to play the occasional game, like red alert 2 or the new cnc game.

how heavy is the a8js? yea, thanks guys. i have only owned thinkpads and have sworn to never get anything else...but the a8js seems to tempting indeed.

Since CNC games are not too demanding on the GPU, the x1300 found in the t60 should be good enough. If you want to carry the notebook around with you frequently, I would chose the t60 as it is considerably lighter and has much better battery life. Keep in mind though that the x1300 is a very low end card not capable of playing more demanding games well.

The a8js is 5.25lbs and the regular macbook (not pro) is 5.2 lb.

5.2 pounds is simlilar to how much athinkpad 14.1inch sxga+ would weigh too...so i don't see where you're getting that the asus would be much heavier than the thinkpad :S.

Well the T60 is half a pound lighter so I guess there's not a big difference between the 2
