    Hey guys,
I like the Asus C90 a lot, but the 1650x1280 (or whatever it is) is simply too high of a resolution. I heard that you can customize the screen of the C90. Does that mean that I can get one with a 1440x900 res. screen somewhere? That would be perfect!

I don't see why not. My F3sv has the option to go from it's high of 1440x900 to 1280x800 if I desired.

The 1650x1280 on a 15.4 inch laptop simply makes everything too small. I want to comfortably read text at the native resolution. 1440x900 seems to be the perfect balance. I was wondering if anyone was going to sell the c90s with that resolution as the native res.

I know you can lower the res., but then the images are less clear and a little blurry. I do not know why Asus does not offer a lower resolution on their 15.4 inch c90. I do not think I am the only one who thinks 1650x1280 on a 15.4 inch screen is too small.

if you run vista it won't make everything too small

Well most people prefer the highest resolution they can get. I think the rescaling down isnt a big issue since most people when playing games they rescale down to 1024 or 1280 resolutions anyway.

Also Vista is not as bad as people make it out to be. Yes it has its problems but so did xp when it first came out. XP also performed worse then previous operating systems when it first came out because new anything for the most part has a lag time in which it sucks until it can be utilized properly. There were tons of people that said "I will never upgrade to xp" like how people are saying they will never upgrade to vista things like this take time to work itself out.

Also this is forums unless your in the xp or vista poll people always make new threads when they have problems. Your not gonna see people make 50 threads like vista was great. New thread: vista is awesome. New thread:Vista is fantastic! Instead people with problems with vista make threads complaining about its compatibility, security, or whatever else.

What does the operating system have to do with resolution? I just want to know if Asus will release a 1440x900 native screen instead of the 1650x1280 screen. I do not know why people think more resolution is better on such a small screen.

Higher resolutions are more popular because people get more "room" but whatever to each his own point is no there is no wxga+ c90 screen now.

The issue with items on the screen being too small in xp as the resolution goes up is not an issue with Vista. You can alter the resolution all you want and keep the OS looking exactly the same on screen. One of the many positives of using Aero.

i'm just suggesting that running vista may be another solution instead of downgrading your screen :>

Zoom is the key: While browsing you can holt CTRL & "Plus" (on the numpad) to zoom-in, CTRL & "Minus" (on the numpad) to zoom-out.

While using Word you can also zoom. The option should be somewhere, not really hard to find...

I've the exact same issue as the original poster and I'm only 15! I've a inspiron 6000 with WSXGA+ and the my eyes get really tired after 1-2 hours of use. :(

Just a thought, browsing with different zooms usually screw up the layout for some website.

I've come to the same conclusion as washington101- a lower resolution screen is necessary. I hate to run my computer in reduced mode, which defeats the purpose of having a high resolution screen. Everything is also fuzzy and uncomfortable to read.

well, if you want to read text comfortably under a high resolution. I guess you can try to go to display property -> apperence -> font size. I said I guess because this works for XP. I am not sure about the vista

Although the image quality is best at its native resolution for LCD screens (which is also its highest resolution setting possible), you could change resolutions that have the same exact multiple as the native resolution without a significant loss of image quality. For example, you can easily switch between 1600x1200 to 800x600 because they share the same exact multiple.

Another solution to resolving unreadable icons/text at higher resolutions can simply be fixed via control panel. This solution is for XP only as Vista automatically adjusts the settings at higher resolutions.
(Control Panel>Display Properties>Appearance>"Font Size". For large desktop icons, from the appearance tab, click on "Effects" button and check on "Use large icons")

And if your eyes hurt after staring at the monitor too long, you might want to change the screen refresh rate to something higher. Do realize that certain monitors cannot handle higher refresh rates.
    (Control Panel>Display Properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor>"Screen Refresh Rate")

We used to offer lower resolution option on z70va, z71v and a few more. it was inexpensive. I doubt we will offer it again on c90s. atm c90s is only comming out in 1680x1050

I have personally never had a montitor that gave me a noticable degrade in quality when I had to scale a lower resolution up to fit the screen.

Given that these are desktop monitors and note notebooks it may handle it better.

But I think it should be the same, if anything the notebook may be better because it has a smaller dot pitch.

Stalker for instance is the first game I had to run at a really low resolution to play with all the eye candy on. 12x7 vs 1920x1080 and it looks perfect. It looks just like full native did to me but it doesnt lag :p

This is why I always prefer a lower res scaled up with the eye candy on and a good frame rate, to a higher resolution with eye candy off and possibly bad frame rates.

Scaling thru software (video card) is almost always better than hardware (the monitor itself)
