Hello! I have a question about my C90 and it's power supply plug.
1) I believe it's a 90w plug that came with the laptop (I can't find the voltage on the plug, but sites says it ships with a 90w).
2) My laptop runs pretty hot since the day I got it.
I mention these two things to ask a question- reading about the heat from my computer, I read that if I get a 120w power supply plug, it should actually let my laptop run a bit cooler. I'm not sure on the physics of it, so I'm asking here to see if that is true. I found three seperate postings mentioning a 120w plug + laptop running cooler.
I know the C90s run hot naturally since they are basically like a desktop replacement in a laptop body, but I'm trying to make the heat generated from it comfortable. I even got a thermapad to lower the temperature by a couple of degrees.
In a nutshell: Will upgrading to 120w plug over 90w plug help with the heat issue (and if so, how does that work like that?)
(edit: sometimes my screen goes black when running graphic intensive games, even with the latest drivers, so I think a bigger power supply might help with that too. I got an nvidia 8600, 2.66gz processer, ram is 2gb, hard drive 160gb/7200rpm- and the battery is not plugged into the laptop)

I don't see how swapping the 90W adapter for a 120W would make the laptop run cooler.
To check if your your adapter if 90W or 120W, Look on your adapter it should say something like Output: 19v 4.74A, to see if you have a 90W or 120W adapter simply times these two numbers together so for me it would be 19x4.74 = 90.06 thus 90W adapter. -
got a question: does 120w psu give more gpu power??? i know that x6800 gets extra power from 120w psu

Well I got the 120w plug, turns out the plug itself runs cooler, not the laptop. I see where I was confused.
Doing a bunch of research I believe I have something of an answer for you, ilomse. It doesn't really give more power, but it has more to offer if the computer asks for more. If your computer is only asking for 60w of power, it's only going to get 60w- the plug won't give more than is asked.
Now if your laptop asks for more watts than your plug has to offer, it will start tapping off of your battery. If it asks and your computer/power supply can't provide, it might crash or shut down. If you find your computer is having these problems, more watts might be a solution. -
