maybe it was/is a typo and referred to the 801 bios?

I tried looking on their FTP which often releases stuff earlier than their website, and there isn't any updates for the c90s yet.

If it was a typo, that would mean both the poster and the person responding are making the same typo. Completely possible, but I hope not. It sounds like the person responding is an Asus technician of some sort.

Yeah the link takes forever! No luck finding the bios update. So far this is the only reference made to it.

I'm pretty sure I remember Ken saying he had a beta 902 bios before though. I'll try digging that post up.

Also I submitted a technical inquiry asking about it at the Asus support website.

I think the 902 bios is for another product. I did a google search and this came up - http://forum.ncix.com/forums/index....01&product_id=26555&msgcount=24&overclockid=0

Look in the comments and they refer to the 902 BIOS for something. I know the comments are a month old but it's the best I could find. Perhaps something got switched around on the Asus site. I pray the 902 BIOS is really out but this might also be the answer...

    themanwiththesauce,

I ran across that too. However, the link in my first post looks like a direct response from an Asus tech, and it gives a pretty detailed description of a fix for a common problem. Also it's under the "C90S" section and the post says "C90S" right in the title.

Both the original poster and the Asus tech make reference to this bios So I'm hoping it does in fact exist. I'm hoping it will fix the gaming mode issue and wifi issue that has plagued my C90S.

All we can do at this point is wait for Ken. He'll let us know for sure either way, he's really good with support for the C90S.

    :waits: : )

Nightwalker....re your wifi issue....does your computer freeze while surfing if you unplug the a/c adapter...freeze after about 1-3 seconds? If that's your problem, there has been a fix for a long time. Let me know.

    Zoid,

My computer doesn't freeze at all. When I unplug the AC adapter my wifi card just stops working.

It's as if Vista shut it off but I've triple checked ALL power saving options a thousand times. They are set to maximum performance and NOT to allow Windows to turn off my WiFi card.

    My only problems are:

    1. When I attempt to use gaming mode with my E6700 the computer freezes. This is the only time it does freeze.

    2. WiFi card cutting out after I unplug AC adapter.

That's it. I've tried all the Intel drivers and I just can't figure it out. Ken said this is a common issue with the 4965 card and the C90 and that a bios update MIGHT fix it. I'm sure he'll chime in at some point.

    Quick Specs:

    BIOS: 801
    CPU: E6700
    RAM: 1x2GB & 1x1GB Super Talent DDR2 667
    WiFi: Intel Pro 4965 A/B/G/N

a new wifi card will fix the wifi issue on battery. see my post number 18 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2824919#post2824919

edit: if it didn't freeze, it would alway drop my wifi connection on battery until Ken at Gentech sent me new card. Apparently there was bad batch of intel cards out there per Asus. Hard to believe how this could be, but true.

No way, I refuse to believe this brand new card is the fault. Both Gentech and BTOTech do not offer the 4965 card anymore because it's known to have issues with this notebook. They have taken them out and tested them in different notebooks and they have had no problems.

I'll be really upset if I do have to replace my WiFi card. It's the ONLY thing I didn't buy from Gentech. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.

If I needed it fixed ASAP I would replace it. But that's a pretty crazy thing to expect people to have to do. Asus needs to get their act together and release some fixes for these issues. Sigh.

The new card fixed my problem. I never quite understood what it's problem was on battery power. Ken at Gentech, like I said, is the one that told me this was the issue and mailed me the new card. I'm just giving my experience, and my fix for the issue. PM Ken about it...he knows who I am.

I agree, they need to fix it. I'm not waiting weeks for a replacement. I need my computer for work. It's ASUS's fault for releasing the laptop with the 4965 card without testing it, if that is the case. I will switch to another brand if it is.

First time ordering an ASUS laptop. May be the last.

Why can't anyone get my name right? /cry

Oh and ridley, technically yours is a rebrand ASUS...even though it has the exact same problems as a non rebranded one :p

But yes the solution is to go and have your reseller replace it or I guess try ASUS directly if that doesn't work. But since you got the velocity micro I also have to ask if you got it from circuit city (god awful customer service) or from an online reseller (probably much better customer service)?

If you got it from circuit sity then you are probably better off contacting asus directly or maybe trying to find a card from another laptop off of ebay or something and using that. If memory serves correct someone else used a dell wireless card in their C90 and it worked fine.

Got it from Velocity Micro online. I think it compounded on the poor experience and the fact that I found out later I wanted a laptop with more than an hour of battery life. Sure, I shouldn't have picked up the C90S, but it just upset me that much.

I've been using this name for nigh on 6 years now and you're the first person to type it like that. You should have gone and gotten your eyes checked :p

Does anyone know anything at all about this BIOS like a list of changes it's supposed to make or something? I'd be more excited if I had some concrete knowledge like "controllable fan speeds", "support for quad-core", or "fixes ram and wireless issues for good!"

theZoid is right about the wireless card, we swap a card for him and it now worked on battery mode, the problem with C90S is there are only some 4965 card work on C90S battery mode, and those card that worked has no different than the cards that doesn't work, they all from the same batch, we just don't know what so special about those card that works.

No problem, I think the 4965 wireless card is combination of the card and BIOS just like the incompatible RAM on C90S, they all work on other notebooks but just not C90S, too bad we don't have anymore incompatible RAM in our warehouse otherwise I'll test to see if BIOS 902 fix the RAM compatibility issue.

Just finished installing and testing the new 902 bios. Unfortunately, this bios has not fixed either one of my problems. My WiFi card still cuts out if I unplug the AC adapter and I still can't use gaming mode.

Thanks for posting this bios image though Ken! You seem to be better with Asus support then Asus themselves!

that's too bad :( , when we put together C90S with 4965 card we have to hand pick the card that works, according to our warehouse only 3 out of 10 4965 cards in the same batch that'll work, so if you want to use it in battery mode you must swap the wireless card or temporary swap to 3945 for now until Asus fix it.

It's funny they grant a voltage adjustment but still nothing to do with fan speed. Don't they understand that we can't run overclocks when our laptops overheat because the fan won't spin up? If I could run the fan speed of Overclock mode my videocard runs 33C COOLER under full LOAD. It's freaking nuts. But there is no way a simple person like me could reach through to Asus.

New BIOS doesn't do anything at all. It doesn't fix any of the issues on my end, specifically the system hang. Of course, I don't know if the 2G * 2 was for using 4GB or actually 2G*1 for a single 2gb stick (like being typo).

Either way, one more reason for me to drop this laptop. The last BIOS was released in the middle of September. I didn't experience anything TheZoid did, and since I am experiencing the same thing as Viscious, it wasn't the wireless card.

I was expecting it won't fix RAM compatible issues with all brands since there are so many incompatible RAM out there, but it did fixed for Mightylobo, he can now boot on battery mode.

If anyone of you having incompatible RAM issue with C90S I encourage you to try BIOS 902, it may or may not fix it but doesn't hurt to try.

Hi Mightylobo, mind if I ask which brand of RAM are you using?
