You think it would help target Corsair. It has the name recognition, but I guess they haven't figured it out yet.

Everytime i put it in gaming mode the sound gets delayed. Also everything starts to run super slow... i think my ram could be the problem with the new bios.

Ken, is the C90 now booting with 2x2GB of ram but only reading 3.5GB? I'd be interested in knowing since I got a copy of Vista Ultimate heading my way right now and I was considering installing 64bit on the C90S.

    Burning right now.

I'd also like to know wich brand of 2GB is now working, with the current price of the RAM, a little upgrade would work wonderfully!

    Was OCZ/Kingston working before?

    Value or not?

    533 or 667?

I just updated mine. Am I the only one noticing that the battery charging light is always on while plugged?

yes, my light is not on at 100% charge. So on the ram issue does the board still only recognize 3 gigs even with 64-bit OS and 2x2gig in ram slots? Cause that seems rather silly imo that it wouldn't recognize it now that it can boot with 2x2gig.

Im abit iffy about this, looks like the fix was for use of 4gb of ram (in the past using 2x2gb would prevent the computer from booting period no matter what mode your in, not even a bios post) So I highly doubt it will fix my 3gb of ram issue in battery mode, however in the name of science I shall give it a shot.

Threw in 902. Everything works fine, not that I had any problems with the 801. All OC switching works fine, just pulled AC no probs, plugged int back in fine. Temps, seem to be about the same. Don't see any big changes for me. If only I could say the same about the GDDR3 drivers...

I have it installed, installed my 3gb ram and still freezing at windows boot, put 2gb back in and now in windows. Everything seems the same.

Wish they would give more info on whats changed, i would like to know if there is more or less voltage in overclock mode now.

The 2gb stick I am trying to use is Micron IC's so its not like some low profile ram.

The only thing I have noticed so far and its a bad thing is that my wireless connection has droped and had errors several times (10 times in the last few minutes) when I never had a problem before.

The AP is in the next room, with a full connection strength its also nearly a brand new AP so I doubt it has any issues. I did a hard reboot on it and rebooted windows a few times and its up and going for now.

I'll second that on the gddr3 drivers. was hoping that would do the trick vicious...I don't see a huge difference with 3gb's, but it does help in linux with an xp vm running. You can always swap it out for Super Talent, what I have.

I doubt that, I think some of these C90's have there own personality and will work with certian things while others wont. More than once somebody had ram of a specific model working in there c90 and it didnt work for somebody else.

I am posting on my desktop because right now I cant stay connected to my wireless network for more than 30 seconds on the laptop.

Since I took out the wireless card the other day to test for that one compatability issue, then updated the bios today I have more than one factor that could be causing it.

So now I have to take my laptop to work or something and see if I can connect and stay connected to the wifi there, that will let me know if its my AP or the Laptop. From there I suppose a roll back to the older bios is next, and if that doesnt fix it, a reinstall of th e wireless card.

By then if its not fixed I have a problem.

I think mine is a perfect example of this as I run with the 2GB +1GB of Corsair with 0 problems.

I am curious to know however, of those with OC problems know what version of cpu they are using, 22w or 12w, as this could possibly cause some issues.

yeah, I have 3gb of RAM as well, 1gb of which Ken installed and another 2gb Patriot stick I bought and put in myself after getting the laptop. I used to get blue screens when I first put the RAM in but now, after a few months of owning it, I only get a blue screen after I over heat, which isn't often, and it's predictable.

    Sgt. Hollywood,

I have overclocking problems and I'd love to find out which version of the E6700 I have. CPU-Z doesn't list it as far as I can tell. Does anyone know how to find out?

1st thing 1st, did you build yours? And or do you know what model number of your E6700? There are 2.

The low Extended halt power "SL9ZF" 12w
And the Higher Extender halt "SL9SF" 22w

It is printed on the cpu heatspreader as well.

Bios revisions were needed to function properly, when the were introduced in some cases.

    Guys,

I noticed this thread had the most views right now out of the C90s threads so I figured I would post this here.

I dont know about you guys but im starting to regret my purchase of the C90s. First of all, im glad that MY C90S works fine but what about all the other people that are STILL having problems with this or that. The most bothersome part of this is that as slow as Asus has been in resolving these problems, the majority of the problems have no fix! You either have this problem or that problem. Mine works perfectly fine and I have none of the problems I hear about...but guess what....the cpu still idles at 65C and loads higher than 75C!!! I had dreams about the C90s being the perfect little best of all worlds upgradeable fast wonder that it isnt! I feel very disappointed. However, this disappointment could be rememdied IF Asus would back us early "modder laptop" adopters. I mean, is KEN the only person that can get Asus to do ANYTHING??? Moving on....

My biggest gripe about the C90s is im VERY concerned about the whole upgradeability part of the deal. Its been 5 going on 6 months since its been out. There have been gpus a plenty coming out for desktops from ATi and a few from Nvidia...and the die just keeps gettin smaller! So why dont we have a new gpu for MXM-II yet? Is the 8600M GT 512 GDDR2 to 256 GDDR3 the ONLY "upgrade" we are gonna get???? The real issue is that there are no separate MXM-II cards coming out PERIOD. Isnt the point of creating a laptop universal video slot supposed to be that its UNIVERSAL. Why are there so many types of MXM slots? Cant there just be one or two slots? Cant nvidia just find a way to cut down the gpus and build them around a certain standard? Its the same ideology of socket 775. Weve been using socket 775 since the pentium 4! You know how??? BECAUSE THEY MADE THE CHIPS SMALLER AND MORE EFFICIENT WHILE STILL MAKING THEM FASTER! Why is it that everything else in computing is moving toward a certain standard slot or socket or port while making faster parts for them but notebook gpus cant? Well, maybe we just havent gotten to that point....we seem to be getting there. The 17" gaming notebook idea is starting to involve 15" also.

Regardless, the point is that the C90S opened the door for new thought when it comes to 15" fully upgradeable gaming laptops....we got a socket 775with desktop cpu capabilities which is great! BUT, our poor MXM-II upgrades seems to be turning out to be an empty promise. The bad thing is....now that the world is looking into high end 15" laptop gpus (8800M) they decided a better slot would be needed leaving the MXM-II, and the c90s, in the gutter...

Im really quite fed up with Asus as far as the C90S goes. Give us an answer and dont use us early adopters as guinea pigs! IM TIRED OF ALL THE SPECULATION AND WISHFUL THINKING!!! WILL WE GET A GPU UPGRADE THATS WORTH OUR TIME OR WHAT?

    Hollywood,

All parts except the WiFi card were bought from Gentech and I put it all together myself. I JUST had the CPU off the other day and wish I would of taken a look to see which version it was.

Since everything is running so cool right now I really don't feel like ripping it back off again. Either way though Turbo Gear is supposed to work with both the 12w and 22w right?

Ken, since you have some of the resources, have you tried putting 2GBx2 in the c90s to see if it will boot and if it recognizes more then 3GB?

    Just curious.

Yes the C90S will post now with 2G X2 installed with compatible RAM, however, BIOS still says 2944MB.

Damn, that sucks, I was hopeful that it may recognize at least 3.5GB or something. Thanks for the clarification. Is there any reason besides the Wireless-N support to get Intel 4965 over the older Intel 3945. Better Range? Better throughput on A,B,G? Just curious as I'm getting the 3945 as I don't intend to get a wireless-N AP any time soon.

Well, I can connect at 300Mbps to my Airport Extreme on N with the 4965....it helps for Internal network purposes....for internet, it probably doesn't matter ...maybe a small amount depending on your ISP speed.

So, is there any advantage of having 2x2gb over 2+1?

I have been running a 3945ABG for 2 months now. Here is what I found after extensive searching to fix drop outs. First go into hardware properties Device manager and wireless adapter 3945 double click look for tabs power management. take check out of the save power function that is killing the wifi card. also go into advanced tab make sure wireless is on under property go to ad hock power management check use default value. Then go to power management in same drop down slide the bar to highest click Ok on everything and that should solve your problems.Take care....... Getting 54mbps no problem
I built a barbain basement C90'S and runs great on XP Pro if anyone is intested I may start a thread on prices and parts.

It was not a definite issue but one that I wanted to look at as a possibility. IMO the 12W would be the choice CPU to use, I use one and have 0 problems with OCing.

I tried the 902 Bios and it crashed immediately I sent the problem to ASUS and after (2) weeks got this answer:

Sorry for the delay in responding back. We were having our technicians check on the issue. There is a new main board version ending in F09 which we believe when used with the 902 BIOS will resolve the issue. Please contact our tech support if you would to send in your notebook get the new main board revision.

According to CPU-Z my model is C90S 1.00 and my revision is A2 and so far I never had any problems with the 902 bios.

If I were you I would accept a mainboard swap since the newer revisions also solve a lot of other issues with the C90S.

Hmm, is it quite case sensitive for the switcheroo, ie. 5+ replied emails from asus (taking 6 months) b4 they will grant a swap

    or

Will they swap it just on the basis that you need 1 or two of the problems listed above.

Please give us some more info on the procedures you went thru Silver fox to get a replacement

Currently my c90s runs on battery, runs overclocking mode, havnt tried the wireless on battery, 1X2GB ddr 533 kingston . Struth, i cant think of one problem other han incorrect boot no's

    well, here goes 902

    post 902 flash

well, just installed 902, running from battery and on the net with the wireless, plugged in and tubo gear still runs overclocking... phew!

my main reason for updating was to fix the booot post to read my pc 667 (5300)ram,,, d'oh stll reads pc4300

    oh well, next time asus
