Hey, I bought an asus c90s from circuit city the other day under the velocity micro brand name. It was the $1599 model and since I got it, it has problems with crashing frequently and sometimes does not boot up/turn off when i hold the power key. It has 2gb corsair memory, conroe e6600, windows vista home premium, 160 GB ATA/100 HDD and the 512mb gefore 8600m GT. It crashes randomely and sometimes becomes unresponsive. Also, when I do experience problems it has a lot fo trouble booting up. I turn the power on and the screen just stays blank. My video driver is up to date and I couldnt find any other drivers that might help. Is it possible that because the HDD is an ATA/100 and not SATA the computer runs improperly? Any one else know of any answers to this problem?

I would return it as soon as possible regardless of the ata hard drive. Given that the c90s has many problems, I wouldnt even waste time troubleshooting like I did. I have experienced most of the problems people have been having with the c90s, all of which I could not find a permanent fix to. Return it quick so you wont have to wait to get one in stock.

funny thats what the tech support guy said lol.
Hardware problem, maybe this system was returned before? its unlike a computer to just crash. the FIRST time i ever booted it up I got an error message saying "overclocking failed! F2 to run setup F1 to start normally". It was a bad sign....

I get that message on a regular basis at bootup; even though I haven't done anything to be doing any overclocking.

    Cheers,

Sounds like a ram compatibility issue. C90s only uses specific brands of ram

I'm currently using a 2gb kingston and a 1gb nanya. So far I haven't encountered a crash or boot problem.
Here's Asus's official list of ram that is compatible with the c90s
