Asus C90S Custom AutoInstall Windows Vista 64Bit by Swoley2k

This is a custom made autoinstall for the Asus C90s notebook.



REQUIREMENTS:

This custom made autoinstall is intended for Asus C90S notebooks with a fresh install of English Windows Vista 64 bit SP1
Edition ONLY. Any use of this on an old installation or on any other operating system may cause unwanted results and is
therefore not recommended.



PURPOSE OF PROJECT:

The purpose of this autoinstall is to address the following issues with the disc included
with the Asus C90S:

1. P: The cd AutoInstall program uses a visual interface which separates drivers from utilities with multiple reboots
throughout. This causes the user to have go through the drivers autoinstall and then begin the utilities autoinstall
separately.

S: This project solves this issue by running a single batch file to install both drivers and utilities with a single
reboot.


2. P: The Intel Wireless Lan driver is not the correct driver for the wireless card in the Asus C90s.

S: This custom install solves this issue by replacing the wrong files with the correct ones.


3. P: The total files on the disc are too large to fit onto a CD-ROM disc or flash media.

S: This project solves this issue by deleting unnecessary files and folders as well as
manipulating them in ways to compact the total size of the disc.


4. P: The driver and utility versions are out of date.

S: This project solves this issue by bringing all drivers and utilities up to date. This
was accomplished by a thourough search of Asus.com and the internet. Drivers were found not only on the
C90S section of Asus.com but by combing through drivers for other notebooks and a search of the internet.
The drivers are the most up-to-date versions that actually WORK. There may be newer versions out there but
they do not install correctly, whether it be in my AutoInstall method or just installing stand alone. When
a version comes out that actually works then I will update it.

**The Camera driver is the stock driver from the cd. The newer camera drivers send Windows into the infamous "Test Mode". As of today, there is
no way to work around this problem. Sorry...

**This project requires a naturally WHQL certified driver (no modded .inf file). Therefore, it uses the lastest WHQL driver which is version 175.97.
The batch file allows you to select an install with or without the VGA drivers.



EXECUTING THE PROGRAM:

Simply run AutoInstall.bat

This custom autoinstall was a task taken on solely by myself. There was very careful work put into
this project and I feel confident that I have done the best of my ability to deliver an excellent
solution to users of the Asus C90S. This project was originally intended for use by myself only. The
project evolved into a distributed project due to my belief that others should have the same benefits
of this project as myself. For those of you who remember, my approach for this project has changed
considerably. Originally, I used the supplied GUI. After almost 2 months of failed attempts due to
unknown causes for inconsistency, I scraped that approach in favor of the batch file method.

Well, im not sure if it solves that specific issue. There is a pretty good chance though. Since I got the C90S I hadnt been able to find an updated ITE driver until a few days ago. I was very suprised to find one as it is an elusive driver to find!

 

Thats exactly why I made this. I am selectively obsessive. Thats why I install Vista or XP up to but not limited to 20 times/week. It was a waste of time to install the drivers separately. Unfortunately the disc that came with the c90s has problems and of course is out of date. Thats why I started on this project. Like I said it was originally meant for me but I turned it into a public thing. It literally took me my spring break +2 days to finish. I started working on it around 1pm every day and worked until 5AM the next morning. It is one of the most meticulous projects Ive ever done. There were so many obstacles and test to run and downloading and cutting and pasting it made me dizzy. I really hope you guys enjoy it. Just think, all you have to do is install vista, run the autoinstall setup, walk away, come back and BAM all ready to go with drivers and all!

With this release, the only thing you may have to update often is the Nvidia Forceware drivers. I probably wont update the entire project just for that. I may update if a MAJOR driver release occurs.

 

I gotta send my C90S sometime this week for an RMA, but I'll try it out after I get it back.

 

Also, dont forget there is a Windows XP 32bit version up already.

Thanks. I have been trying to update both the vista and xp versions for the last 3 nights and all three nights I wake up the next morning to find it didnt upload right! Its making me quite upset!

 

swoley2k........I don't know what to say. Not to offend anyone, but you are a god to many of us C90S owners. I had the 32bit version of Vista(ugh.....vista.....) and decided to upgrade to the 64bit version to see if my dual core laptop would act like a dual core, but then as great as asus is, there were no 64 bit drivers.....Then I came upon this forum post and....I was sooooooo happy. I would like to thank you. I look forward to your work in the future. If possible I would like to be on your mailing list.

 

Huh? Everything is on the C90S DVD provided with the laptop...

What he did is that he made a new one with the most recent drivers

 

Urm....it was a spur of the moment thing, I was just happy because I was annoyed with finding the newer versions of the drivers; he saved me a lot of trouble and hassle.

Also, the new version should be up in the next two days. I had to do a major overhaul thats taken me almost 2 months.

On a side note, as anyone been able to incorporate the drivers into a Vista DVD with Vlite? It gives me like 25 "unsigned drivers" prompt during the installation and the only driver that is installed is my printer's .

 

No...there arent any webcam drivers out that dont send vista into test mode...and i dont think there are gonna be any. This particular webcam isnt used in any laptops i can find anymore. The bad part is the newest driver is supposed to be completely digitally signed...but IT ISNT!

 

Hmmm? The one gentech is hosting isn't? I haven't had any problem with it.

Ive noticed that there have been numerous viewers of this thread yet hardly any comments. I am not upset because I chose to do this project, but I cant help but wonder if anyone actually cares or uses it. I spent almost 2 months working on this feverishly and plan to do some more work on it in the near future. However, if no one uses it I dont see a point in distributing it to the public. It would be much easier to make the project for my own personal use. If that was the case I woudl have been done with it in March. I would appreciate some feedback.

Oh sorry, I've just downloaded the file; I’ll have to wait until this weekend to test it out because I don't have time during the week, but I expect there to be great results. I really appreciate the effort you have put in for this, it is a huge help to many C90S owners, like myself. I would be very sad if you stop releasing the project publicly, because what you are doing is a very very great thing, don't stop.

 

UPDATED AGAIN! This time the project includes the option of installing without the VGA drivers. Read the ENTIRE readme file first!

 

The VGA drivers, how current are they. I haven’t updated my drivers since the stock ones from the C90S driver disc because I never had a problem with the VGA card.

 

The drivers included are dated feb 22. The install gives you the option of installing everything WITHOUT the vga drivers though. So afterwards you can install the latest driver which is 174.93. You can download it at laptopvideo2go.com

Is it possible for you to make one of these driver files for windows vista 32-bit?

 

Highly unlikely....especially considering I havent even gotten much feedback for the two I did make. Also, me not using 32bit vista doesnt help.

when you do the updated version will you stick to the 174.31 vga driver. I've had problems with lots of the vga drivers from laptopvideo2go, the only stable driver and best picture quality was from the original stock driver. What's the best vga driver that you use?

 

I have no idea what the best driver is now....ive been using 174.31 but not in games...i have been doing a LOT of other things. I havent even touched the C90S thing for about a month now...I just wish there would be some NATURALLY whql drivers with the right subsysid for the 8600M in the c90....then i would feel better about updating this program

All the WHQL drivers loose their signature when you modify the .inf file

 

yeah thats why it took me so long to update. there still arent any whql drivers for the 8600 in the c90....so i just went ahead and updated anyway.

 

I wish Asus had a 64 bit 8600 driver for the c90s. Sigh...

 

...I’m sorry to say, but Asus has abandoned the c90s.......I used to love Asus....also swoley2k, this august I will finally get to give your wonderful driver a good test run when I get my new hard drive!!!

 

I recently gave the autoinstall 64bit by Swoley2k a shot. I didn't have problems before, but when I decided to refortmat I thought it would be a good chance to try out the drivers. Everything seems to be in order, though the biggest problem is still the video driver. Most of the time it's not a problem, but once in awhile you'll get a program that causes some trouble for the driver. Overall I thought it was a great project for the c90s, great job Swoley2k. Us c90 pioneers have had our handsfull this past year and hopefully asus will improve on the design on the next model.

 

Ugh, the video drivers...I've tried many of them, but I’m back at the original stock video drivers. The one main reason is, they are the best quality for watching movies(anime), when you resize the screen the picture doesn’t get all distorted as with other video drivers.

 

I never had a problem with watching anime with any drivers that I tried recently. Though if that was the problem, it would annoy me greatly. It would definitely make running my anime site much more difficult.

 

There is a nifty trick floating around right now how to install desktop video drivers on notebooks using the have disc method by choosing the closest desktop video card to your notebooks video card when asked to choose and it gives it full WHQL, I'll test this out since I'm putting Vista 64 back on my notebook. Thanx again for this driver pack and keep up the good work.

 

I don't have any problems with anime on mine with 177.35. Hell, I'm watching them on my 1080i HDTV and the picture is very good.

Also, some times ago, I made a custom DVD with Vlite and added all the drivers I need in it. When installing Windows, I get like 40 non-WHQL warning message asking me if I still wanto t install it but whatever I choose, they don't get installed, except my printer's drivers

Revived! Swoley I think you just answered a question for me that all of google could not.

I am installing the drivers for the C90S because I just sold it and I had this test mode thing pop up. I manually turned it off via the command prompt but I think that only removes the water mark I dunno what test mode is or what it does but I know that right now I can not refresh my vista score and have it stick it is staying at 1.0 for graphics. Its the drivers or that test mode thing.

Its driving me nuts right now, so I just took off the camera drivers and will see if that fixed it. If not then I need to find different display drivers.

 

Yeah vicious I posted in the other thread about the webcam. The other guy with the link from the intel site came just in time. I am making a new version of the autoinstall and it will include the WORKING version of the webcam driver (same version but working). It will also have a new VGA driver WHQL!!!!

Had to fix a minor problem with the program.

 

Just installed Vista and used the Custom AutoInstall, it worked flawlessly and was heavenly. Thanks so much, you are a god amongst us 64x C90S users!!!
