    Hey Everyone,

I have an Asus C90S with an 8600M GT 512MB card running Vista Ultimate 64-Bit. I just started experiencing this problem about an hour ago. The computer had been running WoW fine all afternoon and then I took a nap. When I woke up, I restarted Wow but about a few seconds into playing, it started to jump all over the place. After about 20 seconds the graphics completely went crazy (UI disappearing, things not rendering properly, dots all over the screen). I restarted my system but it went on to do the same thing. I then went and blew out the interior of the laptop and reapplied thermal paste to my graphics card and processor heatsinks. I then went and re-installed the newest driver from Laptop2Video. But it still is doing it. I'm now in the process of doing a complete OS reload. Do you guys think this could be a hardware problem?

Also, when playing with the task manager up, it shows the CPU as running very high, yet process list shows very little activity.

Definitely could be. Esp when you say you see dots all over the screen.

Was there anything that made you think the thermal compound was in need of replacement? Remember that TM needs time to cure and your temps will actually be higher before the cure period.
Do you get graphic errors in basic 2d and or in other games.? No OCing right?

How old is you c90 and where did you acquire it?

It does sound like a hardware issue. But before we can confirm that, what are the temperatures like for the GPU during load? I was going to ask if a system restore would help, but since you're reinstalling the OS, that will work too :) Also try older drivers to see if you get the same issues.

I've had the C90 sitting at BIOS while I transferred all my data off onto another computer. CPU was running at 42 Celcius.

Another thing of note, when the freezing and graphical artifacts started occuring, I did see a message in the tray saying the graphic display has failed and recovered.

I just flashed it to the 1002 Bios as well.

I ordered all the parts and assembled my C90 sometime in August of 2007.

And I also do not overclock it at all.

Sorry to hear the 1 year anniversary, lots of 8600 dying off around the 1 year mark. Just past the warranty period, go figure.

It's strange, the only time the graphic errors show up is when playing games.

It's not strange. that's when its being taxed the most, not with 2d apps.

Temp is holding stable at 60 Celcius now that the system has been running setup and driver programs.

I think I'm good in the regard that my gpu is not close to being a year old yet. My laptop just needs to last until christmas, where it will be replaced by a Lenovo T400. I think. Maybe. Who knows?

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 (2.4GHz 4MB 1066FSB LGA775 Conrore) is the processor. Is 60 degrees Celcius normal for that processor.

Temp' s about right, although I recommend running in power saving mode when full output is not needed.
