Hey guys, I ordered a C90s from cyber power pc and have just been informed it has been delayed because of a shortage of video cards. I ordered the system around July 10th and am somewhat distraught. Not only did the company screw up my order but they also had no option for 3gb ram, windows XP, and all around seemed to have no idea what theyre doing. Since it could be many more weeks I was wondering if it would be plausible to buy the barebones and parts and simply put it together myself? It seems like it could ship a lot sooner and I could have everything going a lot more quickly than by just sticking with cyber power PC.
On a side note, I was wondering as to where I would buy a vid card for the c90s? Its max GPU wattage is 25, and the upcomming Geforce 8800M is going to be 22 watts and MXM so it seems like its all compatable, but it seems like no vendors sell laptop vid cards. I also think I might look into compatability with the GeForce 8700M if I were to buy barebones and all parts myself.

umm bump. I just want to know if it is a good idea to buy this as a barebones PC unit and parts so it will be shipped by early next week and not an unknown time in the next month.

While I've never ordered from cyber power I've heard some horror stories about them from my friends so I would def. recommend getting a barebones system and building your own laptop if you are up to it. Most of the parts can be found through google if you want to find the cheapest price or on Newegg.com if you want to sacrifice a few dollars to use a reliable seller. If I were you I would contact someone like vicious who built his barebones to find out the best places for parts.

thanks! just found that Ajump has the barebones w/out the vid card in stock, and conviniently the vid card itself lol. but-should I be wary that these parts will not be tested together like some other sites?

I ordered my c90s from cyberpower.. and let me tell you.. cancel your order now before its to late. Get it from gentech you may be paying like 50-100 bucks more but its for sure going to work. When i first got my C90S it wouldnt even start. It crashed when it was starting vista for the first time and screwed everything up. I reseeded the ram and it finnaly worked then I had to reformat. once i got it working I found they put corsair ram into it so now it bluescreen if I try to run it without the A/C in the back or if I try to use the overclocking feature. Order it from gentech please
Also once i found out that the problem was the ram they gave me the hardest time about just returning the ram so i could buy my own but FINNALY yesterday they gave me the RMA number to send it back. -
Order cancelled from cyberpower. Now - here is my plan for the C90S parts because time I do not have. All items are in stock and ship between 1-2 business days.
Asus C90S BareBones - $819.00
NVIDIA 8600M GT 512MB Vid Card - $181.00
120GB Toshiba MK1234GSX SATA 5400RPM 8MB Notebook HDD - $79.00
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6700 - 2.67GHz- Box CPU - Socket LGA775 - $299.90
Microsoft Windows XP Home w/ SP2 - $99.99
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g) - $29

Shipping is under $30 for everything. All I need is the RAM can anyone recommend a good, affordable 3GB set-up? -
