So whats the difference? Less Bulky - means no fans in the back?
Q1: How many hard drives do these take internally?
Q2: Who are the best US suppliers of ASUS whitebooks? I really want to buy one of these with as little 'add-ons' as possible. I would source the items myself (CPU, memory disk). I only want the Case + screen + Intel 802.11N Battery + Power Supply.
I will provide: OS, CPU, HDD, Memmory...
Warranty and extended warranty is important, but I want these direct from ASUS.
I normally buy Dell - so any help/advice here will be appreciated.
-
Sorry, doesn't answer anything, just wanted to ammend for myself...
This interests me much as well. The C90 seems like an amazing concept, but the fans worry me a little. The less bulky C91 could also mean less efficient.
Will the C91 be an improvement to the C90's design or a compromise?
Hopefully the C90 is not a beta version of the C91. -
that's kinda weird of Asus. They have a C90.. then release the C91.. what's the point of this?
-
Don't bother.
Get a real laptop, not "lets cram desktop parts into a laptop to save costs".
Look at how any of the P4 or P4-m DTRs survive in terms of durability and heat, and you'll see why. -
I don't know the details, but I imagine the C90 will offer a higher end graphics card and the Intel Extreme clocked Conroe processors while the C91 will be a more "normal" graphics card and no option for an Extreme processor -- maybe they'll max it out as the E6400 2.13GHz in the C91. And then they wouldn't need the jet engine fan on the back end.
Personally I'd like to see them put after burners or at least some lights in the back of the C90 to make it look like the laptop is capable of liftoff when working at full force -
Too early to tell on price and all, but all distributers and dealers will have it, so just take a look around.
-
I swore that I'd never get another big DTR, but I have to say that this notebook is very interesing. Just looking forward to pricing info. -
You can buy the desktop CPUs normally, and notebook memory is out there, but where are you going to be able to buy graphics, LCD, etc?
And will all this customization clost less (like desktops), or more? -
It'll still cost more then a desktop, they've always have been. A motherboard for a notebook costs $200-300 for even a low end notebook.
As for customizing it, you can't just 'find' and 'buy' parts, as it'll have to be from an ASUS dealer, cause only the parts they make will fit in the notebook. -
I know it will cost more than a desktop, but I meant will it cost less than normal notebooks, like custom-built dekstops are less expensive than normal ones, or more than normal notebooks.
-
Is this it available for preorder?
http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=282&idproduct=876
Not even available with 7700 here, ASUS's currently best GPU. I hope it ends up with 8800. If it has an 8600, I'll have to wait for C80 or even C70. -
-
I was searching on Google for the Asus C90 and 91 and found this link: http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=282&idproduct=876
I was looking through the specs and to my disappointment the graphic card that comes with the notebook was a GeForce Go 7600 (not a DX10 card). I tried configuring the notebook and I was able to choose from Intel desktop processors,HHD's, RAM, OS, Mice, & Bags. Oddly the graphics card was not mentioned.Hopefully, the graphics card will be upgradeable to a DX10 card if not, theres going to be a lot of disappointed people.

Nexen has this page published for months. I think it was there in Feb or March. So I don't think you should rely too much on the specifications...
-
I hope the specs on the site aren't true. The z37 is listed there as having integrated graphics.

usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah thats sites full of bull$&*#...
-
I have to wonder about you people wanting a DX10 capable midrange card... what do you expect to do with one anyway? Play the latest and greatest at 10fps?
-
uhm that website is for british only?
anyway, they have many different specs than the ones that are sold at say Newegg. Their F3JP model is windows vista ultimate and has 2gb ram. -

The C90 is packing a nVidia 8600GT and is available for purchase at milestonepc
http://www.milestonepc.com/states/product_info.php?cPath=277&products_id=1489 -
My question is, If I get the 1gb version, and want to upgrade to 2gb, do I have to buy a special type of Ram? Is it expensive? -
Is this actually available now? I dont see a ship date. (at milestone.com)
I thought Nvidia would announce their mobile cards before you could actually buy them. But i could be wrong, i was living in a cave during my Final Exams last week. -
just saw asus c90 from www.milestonepc.com. any comments?
-
one word "whoa" It's using the 8600
just when I thought I was gonna pull the trigger....
O just noticed it's the VBI C90
w/C2D? Interesting...

several C90 threads have been merged into one since they are all asking about the same thing.

This is actually an introdutory shipment, very small, it will come with 8500 256M or 8600 512M video card, I only choose the 8600 card, as I mentioned here, by Jan 2008, there will be total 5 video card options for this model.
We should have it in about 10 days. taking orders now. -
-
What kind of performance can we expect from the go 8600gt? I mean, why put out a midrange dx10 card that wont even be able to reasonably play Crysis? I hope it does not have the same mediocre performance that its desktop brother has, that would be a huge disappointment.
-

-
The 8600GT is more powerful for one simple reason: it supports DX10. End of story. The Go8600 will be the same way.
Fren is right: You can play Crysis on the 7600/8600/Go8600. A top shelf graphics card is helpful, but unnecessary. -
Any idea where in Europe I could find the C90 and other barebones? Ideally in France? It seems to be very difficult to find (not only the C90, i mean barebones in general), when there are dozens of resellers in North America. Am I blind?
-
Hi all, I was just wondering how much the C90S would cost for me approximately if I wanted these specs:
- The C90S Extreme Edition (With the massive fans at the rear)
- Nvidia 8600/ATI HD 2600
- At least 1GB RAM
- 160GB HDD
- Intel Conroe CPU clocked at least at 2.0GHz or above
And one last question, if I don't want to get this model right now, but near the end of this year, (November-December) do you think that this Asus model would be discontinued?
Thanks a lot in advance! -
Go here : http://www.milestonepc.com/states/product_info.php?cPath=87_280&products_id=1489
The barebone costs $1049 , I configured with E6700/2GB/160GB the final price was $1727. -

Also, in the future you will see non-extreme version of C90, it won't have the 4 cooling fans sticking out at the back, but it will still use the same category of CPU, just weaker video card.
Asus notebook team R&D will focus on ensemble in the future, because Asus thinks around 2010, desktop market will be dead, to keep the desktop team still have work to do in the future, the desktop barebone team is taking over the wihtebox notebook R&D work, so in the future, you will see on the whitebox notebook side, Asus will focus on desktop replacement, like C90, because they will be designed by the previous desktop team, probably these guys don't know how to make it work with notebook CPUsso I think in the future, you will see many powerful desktop replacement barebone from Asus because that team with this new work is so excited now.

When you say "in the future" for the Extreme Version of the C90S to become non-existent, how far into the future do you mean? And to that, do you mean they'll discontinue the Extreme versions?
Thanks a lot, Daniel

If you are talking about how soon the non-extreme version will be available, I think it will be just couple of months. If you are talking about how soon there will be many powerful desktop replacement coming out, it has started already, like the C90, it will continue to the end of the world.
-
Hahah, lol, nice. "End of the world". Anyways, in the previous posts, you stated that there will be "Non-Extreme versions" coming out. Will they replace the Extreme Versions and so will Asus discontinue the Extreme Versions by then? Also, is the one in your website Extreme or Non-Extreme?
Regards, Daniel

So I can safely wait for November to come without having to worry about the Extreme Version disappearing off the face of the Earth or it being replaced by the Non Extreme Versions?
Thanks for all your time and I'm very sorry if I'm bothering/annoying you.
Regards, Daniel

Guys, it's not out YET. Soon, in a week or two, just be patient
-
Hey Milestone is there any way to get an extended warranty if I purchase a C90 from you? Because I'm going to make a big investment in something such as a laptop I'd like that peace of mind
-
As for all dealers, they usually have 1 or 2 years of standard warranty, of which is basic 'If it goes wrong and its NOT the users fault, send it for a repair', or the extension, which is usually up tp 3 years max.
-
I now but there isn't a way to extend the warranty on Milestone's website. Hey milestone, since you said this is only an introductory shipment does that mean when they start getting mass produced like around mid/late May? That the price will go down? Because I can't afford 2GB, 100GB 7200RPM, Home Premium, and 1.86GHz
-
Best to email them and ask
I know they offer extended warranties(I bought two notebooks from them) though, it's probably not on the site yet.
I doubt the price will go down, if anything, the cost of the components like RAM/CPU will.
