So I'm looking to get an Asus laptop and I originally made a post in the "What laptop should I buy?" forum, but now I've pretty much determined I'm gonna go with an Asus. But I have a few questions about some of the current/future Asus offerings.
I've I been using an Inspiron 8200 15" UXGA (1600x1200) for the last 4 years and I've loved the screen so my next laptop has to be a high res screen also. I use it at work (programming) docked and use it another 5-ish hours a day at home undocked, with maybe 10% of the time on battery power. However, when I use it on battery power only, I usually need to go 5-7 hours at a time. The multibay makes this very feasible because I just pull out my extra hard drive from the multibay and use spare batteries.
My requirements:
Duo Core
15.4" Glossy WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
Gigabit Ethernet
Dedicated Graphics
Multibay
PCMCIA
Dockable
Bluetooth
So my questions are:
1- Is there a 15.4" high res version of the W3J? I really like the look/lay out of this laptop and it includes a multibay.
2- Does the Z96J have a multibay?
3- How do the Asus laptops dock? Does using a 9-cell battery make the laptop "to big" to dock?
4- Is there a table with specs/options somewhere with all the Asus choices with potential future models?
5- I'm looking to get some before the US school year starts (September 1st) is there something I'm not considering?
-
1. Unfortunately no, though, the V1j is speculated to be a similiar model.
2. No
3. Not sure, but I'm thinking it would be the same, from the back bottom area. As well, the PortBar for ASUS laptops can't really be considered much of a dock.
4. You mean telling dealers to break their Non-Disclosure Agreement?
5. So far, all the models out now is probrably what will avaliable then, unless ASUS surprises us with a, *gasp* early release! -
Good choices. Have you considered the Asus A8Jm? It is very similiar to the Z96J. (Except it has 14' like the W3J) It has a express card reader. Just a thought.
Asus Choices/Specs? Z96J or W3J+ Alternative
