    Hi All,

I was wondering which Asus series have an optional docking station? Also, I was wondering which Asus series are comparable to the Lenovo/Dell/HP Business Line notebooks?

    Thanks in advance,

    - J

I would think it's the Asus V series, and I think they have a docking station available?

Yup, only the V and VX series can house docks.

The V series is also the ASUS business series. However, there have been some complains about the build quality of the V1 which is the main member of that series.

Also, it's entirely true that the business V series has NOT been the focus of ASUS lately... the Montevina refresh V1V hasn't even made it into most countries I believe. They are mostly into bang-for-the-buck systems nowadays.

The V1/V2 docking station I have works great for my purposes, but I'll let you decide if it's worth the 200$.

Ports: 5 USB ports, LAN, audio, VGA, DVI, serial, parallel, 1xPS2 (mouse or keyboard) and can be used to charge the unit. It comes with a power brick which works exclusively with the docking station (not the same type plug).

    What's nice about it:
    - drop the laptop onto the dock and it works,
    - has a power source which charges the unit,
    - provides all the external ports you'd expect from a desktop.

    Main complaints:
    - sits on the dock, but it doesn't latch to the dock (not snug and secure like Dell ones) and bumping the table hard enough is enough to accidentally undock the unit (since it's just sitting and isn't latched),
    - can't be locked to the docking station (forget this for corporate),
    - it isn't a Dell (ie: no power button to turn on PC from dock and it doesn't operate with the cover closed),
    - only one type of docking station, which is a bit more than basic when compared to Dell and Lenovo which have several types, some of which provide desktop expansion slots.
    - you can buy a USB port replicator which does almost all of this (minus charging and video passthru) for about 100$. But remember that buying a supplemental power brick for a V1 costs about 65$, so you're getting close if you buy both...

Anyway, works well for home use, but doesn't quite cut it for corporate when compared to a Dell or a Lenovo. But it's made for it and it's quite convenient since you don't have to plug in a whole lot of things each time.

At least it isn't like the HP "docking" units, which are more like a port replicator than a real dock.
