I've suddenly become very interested in this notebook, the debut model has a 7" screen but I hear a 10" screen is also in the works but is it coming out this year or 2008? When is the expected release date of the EEE in the U.S, July or August?

I know it uses flash memory for storage, it is a 1.8" drive which I can replace later on or even if it isn't, can I upgrade the storage later? I know the cheapest model is $200 and there'll be more expensive models, does anyone know the pricing and configs of all the models?

What was the battery life of this in real world usage, I think 3-4 hours? It has a 900mhz Pentium M Dothan processor and 512 megs of ram correct?

Thanks to everyone in advance. :)

Mid August seems to be the speculated release date. The 10" model will be released later than the 7" I believe possibly even next year or at the end of this year.

An external USB HD, is your best bet as far as more storage goes. The pricing is kind of an unknown. According to some sources the EEE PC will go for $199 w/ a 4GB SSD and $299 w/ a 8GB SSD.

Battery life is rumored at around 3hrs. There have been rumors of a 6 cell battery. Standard is 4 cell. 900Mhz Pentium M Dothan CPU is what is rumored. Asus has not stated much about the CPU yet. And yes 512MB's of RAM is correct. Most likely soldered into the motherboard.

There are large black borders and they are quite ugly. The speakers don't need that extra space. The 10" model is going to come out a fair amount after the 7" model. I would assume it would be the same size. Just a larger screen. Asus has also stated that the 10" model will go for a starting price of $299.

The large bezel isn't that bad...a good way to keep my Post-It notes in check :D

The HD is a SSD, probably onboard and soldered on. Though there should be space available for mods, since the Eee does seem kinda thick 0 perhaps a PCIE to CF card adapter?

The 7" definately looks better than the ugly 10" version.

It also looks larger. But I like the orange linening. The black 701 is otherwise quite cool

I just wish they could have made the 7" model and have the screen take up the whole space, get rid of the black bezel and speakers there. Thats my only big complaint. The 10" version is just ugly IMO. This really looks like a sweet notebook, can't wait for more info and for it to come out!

But on the other hand, the speakers could be quite good. Or at least they are aimed correctly.

    I think the 7" 701 starts at $199 and the 10" 1001 starts at $299.

Anyone know if both models have the exact same specs aside from the screen size and case?

The 701 looks way better than the 1001, darn it Asus, why couldn't you have put a bigger screen in the 701? :(

Or make the 701 smaller, so the screen fits the case.

They would then have to shrink the keyboard. :(

I think it is hard to tell. The 701 makes the 1001 look bad because it makes the 1001 look huge! In real life it might be different.

But if the 1001 has a 10" screen it must be really small. The lid still has more then average space around the screen but it should be about the size of a 11,1" Asus U1F. That is really really small.

How small must the touchpad of the 701 be??

    Ya, :D (char limit)

Anyone know what type of screen does the 1001 packs? Hopefully at least a WXGA.
