I want to buy an Asus EEEPC 1000HA for my 10-year-old daughter. Lynnbay.com has a great price of $389 (after $40 Asus Mail-In Rebate). Shall I buy it? What I can expect from this Asus pc?

    Thank you.

Well, being a netbook, it should run simple tasks like internet browsing and word processing just fine. Gaming will be hard pressed of course, but simple internet games will work no problem. Watching internet videos should be fine, too.

The hard drive size is 160GB with 10GB Internet Storage. Do you have any idea how 10GB Internet Storage would work?

Do I need to buy an External USB DVD Burner Drive? The system comes with InterDVD x Pack. Is that mean I can run a DVD movie with External USB DVD drive?

$389 sounds like a good deal. I am interesting with EEE PC for a long time, but they only offer Linux. Now, Asus offers with Windows XP Home. It could be a good choice.

Agreed. The EeePC 1000HA with Windows XP is a great deal... I am very tempted to buy one, myself.
I'm assuming the internet storage would mean you get 10GB of webspace at your disposal. And yes, you'd probably want an external DVD drive/burner if you want to watch DVDs and whatnot... although if you're going to use it a lot, I'd recommend you just but a small notebook instead of a netbook.

I already have an Asus G50Vt-A2 which I bought from LynnBay.com two months ago.

I just want to buy EEE PC for my 10-year-old daughter.

    Thank you.

It can do everything a laptop can, for its specs is surprisingly snappy and fast.

The only obsticals to really look for are that there is no optical drive, this does not bother me I use my flash drive for everything. However it may be a headache for somebody not very tech savvy if say you wanted to install a program from a disk.

Note that if you have a home network you can share a CD/DVD drive from a computer in your network with the EEE and use one that way.

The right shift key is in an odd place, a problem at first if your a touch typist. However there are ways to circumvent this with software to swap the up arrow key and shift key.

Lastly is just the screen resolution on netbooks is small. 1024x600 I want to say. So great for windows, great for most websites, but still not as nice as a small laptop with 1280x800

But the small laptops that are nice cost way more, and the cheap small ones I do not personally care for much.

For the money I say its worth it, its a great travel companion and can give her something to do in the car, makes a great movie/music on the go tool (get her some cheap earbuds), it has a long battery life, and its just charming :p

I love mine and I paid more. ~$430 but I also had gotten the 1000H one model up, only difference is the bluetooth & wireless.

If you really want to impress her get the 1002HA :p

I want one of those but it would be daft to get it when I have a 1000H already.
