Title says most of it all. Looking to know how hot your charger (the power supply brick with the LED) gets for your Eee PC Please only answer if you own, previously own, or have used an Eee PC.

Mine gets super hot, too hot to touch, very quickly if I charge it while using the computer. If I have the computer off or in sleep, it still heats up to super hot temps, but much slower. If I take the battery out, the charger is fine.

Please also say what your model is. Mine is a 1005PEB.

It's pretty normal for those small chargers to get hot. Mine did on the 1015PEM.

Hm, how hot? Like literally too hot to touch? I want to know if it is about the same as I'm experiencing with mine. Mine just actually went out a couple days ago. The large capacitor was basically about to pop (leaking electrolytes I believe) and the board seemed to be burnt in one spot. Again though, my charger would get mega hot. So hot that it actually hurt to touch it, and you couldn't touch it for more than like 3 or 4 seconds (only after it had been charging for some time of course), so I'm thinking that killed it like I think it killed the first one, but I'm not positive.

Trying to figure out if my computer just has issues or not, since this is the second charger that has gone out. I think you actually may have given me some tips on a thread a while back when I asked about this after my first charger went out.

Yes, very very hot. Since the adapter is so small there is very little surface area to cool it. I didn't ever measure the temperature, though. They are cheap, crappy AC adapters that are not reliable at all.

I see. And yours never died on you? Odd that mine died on me then. Twice. I'm actually a little furious that no reviews of this netbook even mentioned anything about the charger, which has led me to think that it's just me having the problem.

Gosh, not even sure what to do about it anymore. Maybe I should just seek a new netbook that has a better charger or something.

I didn't have the system long enough for the AC adapter to die, but I've seen plenty that have.

If two chargers have died on the same netbook in a short amount of time, it is time to consider the possibility of a problem with the power in your house/office or a problem on the mainboard in the charging circuit. Are you sure it doesn't have a loose DC jack?

It isn't my house, because everywhere I've plugged it in it gets super hot. Both, however, did not die in the same way. I have no idea what exactly happened to the first one, I just THINK it burned out because it got extremely hot and then stopped working. There was no visible damage. The second one did have visible damage after it stopped working after being super hot. I recently put up another thread for this issue in the Asus group (just like this thread is) and there I have a picture of the second charger after I opened it. Lots of visible damage. So yeah, that's questionable there.

As for the DC jack, it doesn't really seem to be loose at all, but then again I haven't really seen an Eee PC with a not-loose one so I can't say for sure. It definitely doesn't seem to be loose though (based on sticking the charger in and seeing if I can wiggle it around).

Forgive me, I don't have an Eee PC, but my cousin's laptop was charging at my house a few days ago and I unplugged it, as the adapter or whatever on the cord was super hot. At what point do these become fire hazards / recall-worthy?
