    Hi,

Well I'm considering this netbook for some portability unless there is any netbooks out there that are better than this one?

About memory upgrade, of course I would upgrade from the 1GB and would it be right that 2GB is the max on netbooks? I've also read something about the Atom it has being the newer N280 can apparently take higher frequency RAM up to 800mhz, would this be right?

All in all I'm looking for something portable to take abroad with me for internet and email access which has a good battery and it seems as though the 1000HE from Asus seems to be the best one currently.

If someone could enlighten me about the above I would appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Yes, that is correct! It has one memory slot that can handle up to 800mhz. As far as 2gb being the max, I am not sure. But mine works great with the 2gb stick I added.

Excellent, yeah I noticed on one forum someone saying to somebodyelse go for 800mhz RAM as apparently the N280 Atom can handle this. Would you have any idea what specific RAM is the right one I really don't know.

Could you possibley take a look on ebuyer.com here -> http://www.ebuyer.com/ This would probably where I would get it from as it's renowned for good prices on such things as RAM in the UK. If the specific type can't be found on there then alternatively other retailers I would look at would be ones such as

    http://www.dabs.com/

    http://www.amazon.co.uk

    http://www.overclockers.co.u/

I did notice a moderator on the asus forums was suggesting to someone to use a lower frequency RAM thats why I'm confused but if you can use 800mhz then that would obviously be better. Can someone point out the exact right RAM from one of them sites please as I'm unsure which is the right one.

Also about buying the 1000HE me personally looking at reviews it seems to be the best netbook out there at the moment, is there any better netbooks about? the ones I have really seen so far which seem to be good is the asus 1000HE and the Samsung NC-10 which I know is highly rated but thats only got b and g WiFi and the N270 Atom where the asus has newer...

Asus has the upper edge in battery life and touchpad feature (multi-gesture touchpad). The Samsung NC10 is superior in the keyboard department (slightly larger than the 1000HE) and has a slimmer profile designed.

The Asus 1000HE can support with 800MHz ram modules, but the system would only utilize 667MHz due to the chipset limitation. The moderator whom suggest using the lower 667MHz ram is because they are usually cheaper than the 800MHz variety, and in real life usage, the user will no notice any difference in speed.

What about the 1005ha? Seashell design, chiclet keyboard + supposed 10.5hours of battery would have the best of both worlds.

Dunno if it would make it to America though.

The 1005ha doesn't appear to be out here in the UK for another couple months at least, no British web stores seem to have them.

Surely the 1000HE is better hardware wise than the Samsung NC-10 due to the newer Atom N280 and N-series WiFi also. I quite like the look of the chiclet keyboard, thats just the kind of style keyboard thats on mac books and Sony Vaio's isn't it :) the "hot keys" by the screen are a plus to me, I don't know about you I think thats pretty handy being able to switch the display off just like that and switching between power modes and then you have 2 keys to customise to what you want say opening Firefox etc.

About RAM prices, RAM seems pretty cheap on ebuyer.com. Which specific 667mhz and 800mhz would be needed from any of the sites I mentioned there, ebuyer would be best but any of them ones?

Any 2GB DDR2 So-Dimm 200pin memory. Whether you want 667MHz or 800MHz is entirely up to you.

2gb is max for netbooks. Some people recommendthe 800mhz ram because it helps if you are going to overclock the CPU (supposedly allows for a higher overclock) Otherwise, 667 or 800 won't make a difference like others have said.

Cool thanks, I've just ordered one with a 2GB 800Mhz RAM upgrade stick which I shall put in straight away when I get it. Also bought an external LG DVD to USB drive for it. :)
