Hello
Last Christmas I purchased an Asus F3JC which came with Windows XP Media Center. The system had hardware problems which caused it to get replaced with another model. It was the same model but came with Vista. After awhile, Vista had been causing it to go slow, so I tried to use the XP Recovery Disks that came with the other one (they have worked with this one before, I can assure you) but once it has asked for the driver cd and restarts nothing happens. Once past the Post Screen it comes to the normal black screen with the flashing dash but it stays there! It will not get past this stage. I then tried my Vista Recovery disk and my Retail Vista Disk but I still have the same prblem! I try using the XP CD again but it doesn't load.
Please help, I really need this Laptop.

Hi,
I suspect something has gone wrong with the bootloader on the HDD.
I suggest you have a look at this question:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3020173#wipe
If you have a SATA drive, put it in Compatible mode from the BIOS before you try to use FDISK on it.
Before doing anything to the partitions, be sure to back up your data! There is a question about how to do that in the guide, as well.
It may also be the HDD going bad, but I think that's less likely. Do you see the HDD in the BIOS? -
Thank you for the reply. I didn't get much help from those answers and didn;t really know what O was looking for lol but you are probably right about the bootloader. How can I fix this?

Look at that link, that explains how you can wipe the master boot record on the HDD (the FDISK method).
-
The link just comes up with a load of questions and I don't know which one has the information about fdisk
-
Sorry about that
It seems the #wipe anchor is not working properly. The question is:
"Windows doesn't install! I want to wipe the Master Boot Record / wipe my HDD clean!" -

Otherwise it may be because the recovery disks do not match the hardware and therefore they refuse to install.
