I'm about to order a Vostro 1500 and would just like to check what other options I have in the same price range before I go through with the order.

This configuration seems to compare well to the Vostro, except I'm not able to tell if the monitor is any good. I do not want a crappy screen.

Well, what kind of screen do you consider to be good? High resoliution, wide viewing angles, crisp? F3Ka screen is only average in all of those parameters, but I wouldn't call it crappy. And I definitelly don't know how it compares to the Vostro screen, couse I haven't seen it. Try to look for some other F3 series reviews, F3sv for example, because almost all screens tend to be the same.

    The F3Ka & F3SA are 1280x800 though. while the F8SV/F3SV are 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

The screen res is what made me change idea. the F3Ka/F3Sa were SO perfect. $1420CAD with 3yrs extended warranty!

I know the res is 1280, but I'm okay with that. I'm interested in viewing angles, colors, gaming perf., etc.
Can you tell me a little about this?

Well like all notebooks, it has a tn matrix, which means that only 16.2mln colors are actually rendered, so it's not as good as some desktop monitors, but not bad either. The viewing angles are bad however, I've seen a lot better notebook screens in this aspect, and thats major pain for me, because I am used to CRT monitors. Overal, if you have a chance, I say go with the Vostro. It should have better battery life, atleast not worser screen, better graphics probably...
