This laptop is complete crap !
I had the misfortune of buying one of these 4 weeks ago, and within 48 hours the ac power adapter gave up on me, and the temperature of the palm rest & touchpad was astronomical ! Needless to say I sent it back for an exchange.
The second one i recived was a *special* asus ! the thing was a cripple !
The keys stuck, the cpu/fan whined, the dvd skreeched, It was "C Grade" stock at best.
How do they have the gaul to send out products in such poor condition ?
Its a pitty, they have all the right components and asthetics for a great notebook, but they miss the boat by a long shot due to shoddy quality control and poor choice of materials.

Well, maybe you've gotten unlucky, or hit upon a reseller that wants to get rid of a few bad laptops. I'm saying this because I didn't see many complaints about the F3XX...
Though "F" notebooks are supposedly at the bottom of the build quality scale, usually for ASUS that means that they are still pretty good... It might not be true for this particular type. -
Maybe, but i tried a F3Jc last year, and it was also terrible, no support for the keyboard on the left over the dvd drive = saggy as hell, with a cpu whine that could wake the dead.
So as a previous thread in this forum sujests (IBM vs ASUS ?) where a lady complained about the rubbish asus makes, I agree completely !!!! -
F3J is only one model... So you can't generalize to all ASUS notebooks. In general, ASUS makes top-quality notebooks (they do suffer in battery life though)
If the F3Jc you tried was terrible, why did you buy the F3S? -
I belived the reviews made here ? LOL
I gave them a second and third chance, after and before the santa rosa / vista releases.
I think their margin for spotless units is less than 10% of total production output, hence the odd group of owners who champion them !
In the most part I'd still say they are CRAP ! -
Ok
Everyone's entitled to his/her opinion, but I still think that overall they are a good company, and you were unlucky.

asus DO make good laptops. What really makes a difference in a laptop is who your buying from. There are a lot of sly resellers out there.
next time, before you decide to buy the laptop, you should:
1.read reviews on the laptop (more than one to get a good idea of what its like)
and 2. do a lot of background research on resellers. websites for example like pricerunner.co.uk can tell you which resellers are selling the laptop you want and show you the price comparison between resellers as well as detailed customer feedback on each reseller. -
You want to know what makes me soooo MAD ?
They look "The Bomb" & they have a fantastic inventory of components, you even get a bag & mouse too !
Thats what gets my goat up !, These things should be market leaders, save for poor production issues and a laxt quality control policy.
Its "SUCH" a shame
Thats why they made me so angry !!!!!!!!! -
well no laptop can be perfect, but i suspected asus has better build quality than most manufacturers. after all, their motto is 'built like a rock' or something of the like.
i bet you just got one of the factory defects, or a crappy pre-used show and tell model.
i feel for you, really i do. i always have terrible luck with 'big' purchases and that makes me afraid to buy the g1s incase i get a slightly faulty one that the odd 1 out of 10 people get.
what you also have to look out for, is that while some manufacturers can throw a whole load of high-spec components into a lappy and make it sound amazing, the quality is then lacked in other areas. for example: due to the design of the F3Sv models, the 8600m GS had to be so severely underclocked, that at stock, it performs like a souped up 8400M GT.
they also dont provide adequate power supply or cooling for the system either.
but im also just being picky here. the good ones arent all that bad! -
I quiet agree, if you get a good one, you get a realy good one.........and if its a bad one, then its the pits !
