    Hello everybody,

I got my friends laptop which he has an ASUS F3Sv Model. So what happenned is that he experienced the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) Screen and now everytime the laptop is booted up the screen resolution is splitted in 6 minor displays.

I asked him of the laptop's history and he mentioned that he had a problem with overheating before but he sent it to ASUS for repair and said it had a fault on the cooling system but was repaired under warranty.

Now the laptop is out of warranty and ASUS said to him that they are going to charge him for it to be repaired. So I am trying to help him on this since it is a fairly good not old laptop and would be a waste bin it...

My suspect relies on the video-card hardware is causing this. I tested the actual TFT screen which works great when connected with an external source. I would like to open the laptop apart just to do some visual inspections on the actual motherboard, maybe I find something obvious.

    So my questions are below:

    1) I would like to find a Service Manual for the ASUS F3Sv Model?!

    2) If anyone have some reports of the same problem happened on this laptop?!

I appreciate your help... and keep up with the good work!!!

    Thanks.

    Chris.

Yes this is the GPU for sure. Possibly the infamous nVidia GPU problem.

Apparently we don't have a service manual for the F3, but we do have them for a whole other bunch of ASUS models so you could use those for inspiration:

If the GPU is removable, an option would be to order one from the ASUS eStore or a similar parts store (see the Info BoothFAQ for possibilities).

You could also call ASUS and make it very clear that this is due to the highly-publicized nVidia fault, which is a design fault, so you feel entitled to a repair under warranty even though the warranty term expired. -- something along those lines. You can give it a try.
