So if I have an Asus F3jp that was originally specified at 2 GB max ram, but now they have 2 GB chips. Can I put in 2 x 2 GB chips and get 4 GB? Since I got the laptop at the beginning of 05 (I think) I don't think they had the 2 GB chips and if they work with my computer.

    Here are the specs:
    Windows XP home
    Intel core 2 duo T7200 @2.0GHz
    Currently 2GB ram DDR2 667
    Radeon x1700 512MB (256 dedicated) (400GHz)

here is a link to the entire spec list (but w/ windows XP)

The Mobile IntelĀ® 945PM Express Chipset supports up to 4GB of RAM, so unless it's blocked in the BIOS, it will be ok.

I read a thread, they installed 4GB, but the computer could only recognise 3GB of it.

You should be able to upgrade to 4Gb of memory.
The cpu is also upgradeable to a T7400 and a T7600.
The T7200 that you have is the third fastest socket M cpu.
The video card is not upgradeable in your system

You can also upgrade the harddrive. Your system uses SATA drives, so you can upgrade to a 500gb 5400rpm or a 320to 500Gb 7200rpm drive and that will make your laptop a lot faster.

Since you are using XP, you will only notice a difference in performance if you are using almost all of your 2Gb of memory.
If your system never uses the full 2Gb, there is no reason to upgrade to 4Gb of memory

    Thanks for the replies
I already upraded the hard drive to a 7200 rpm
and (from what i gathered from the other thread) it doesn't matter if i have
2x2GB chips or a 1gb chip and one 2gb chip. so i think i'm just gonna buy a 2gb chip. And i run alot of apps at ounce so i ususaly push the extent of the 2gb system.

    I have a ASUS F3JP AP089P.
I have been searching for quite a long time now for information about upgrading this model. Till now, I only found info on the model (max RAM 2 GB). I spoke to ASUS Support 3 times asking the same question: can I upgrade my RAM and HDD? I did tell them my current laptop setup. Each time I was told I cannot do that (I had maxed it).

Based on that advise, it seemed like I had no choice but to shop around for a new computer with higher configuration. I am so glad I stumbled on this forum. There is still hope! It definitely looks like I can still hang on to my current laptop and upgrade it.

    Currently the setup is
    HDD-120Gb; Ram-2Gb (2x 1Gb); CPU-2 Ghz; Op Sys: XP Prof.

I have a different model of the F3JP series to Scott1234.
I cannot find any info on the chipset for AP089P. Would it have the same chipset as Scott's model? If so, I would be able to do exactly the same thing as Scott, right (Upgrade RAM to 4 GB and HDD to 500 Gb 5400 rpm / 7200 rpm).

Scott, how is your laptop now since the upgrade?
Any advise or problems you might like to share with me re HDD and RAM upgrade?
What is the make, model and cost of the new HDD you upgrade to?

It is easy to find the 500 Gb 5400 rpm SATA HDD but 7200 rpm is more elusive.

Would appreciate some advice on this.

    Next time don't double post.

Yes it will have the same chipset as the different bunch of number after the model name only indicates a different configuration (RAM, CPU etc).

Sorry, didn't realise I was double posting. Thought I just join in on with this post on RAM and HDD on F3JP laptop to see if any of the guys could help me out.

    Thanks for the info.
