Sorry for the new thread, but I have searched a lot, and have yet to accrue the information I seek. Trying to kill many birds with one stone here, so I apologize if some of this is a repeat from previous posters.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220118

Has anyone bought this F3jp from Newegg? Its among the 3 laptops that I must choose from , and the WSXGA+ is what has me looking at it with greater interest.

    1. Does anyone have the F3jp in the USA with that screen res?
    2. How is the battery life performance? Can you give some examples of "normal usage" battery life? I would love to know how long this thing goes when you have the wireless on, have screen brightness at about 50% and are doing medium intensity stuff like web surfing, IDE development , listening to music a la winamp or something similar or just working on MS office stuff with the wireless and music on ?
Im hoping this baby can crest the 3 hour mark, since that is what I am looking for. Does this have the regular 6 cell like the A8j series or a larger battery?
    3. How is screen leakage on this particular model with that particular high res secreen?
    4. Does the card reader read xD?
    5. Lastly, what is the actual weight of the laptop? 6.5 or 7 lbs? How much with the power brick? Anyone have any pics of their f3jp?

    TIA!

At least the F3Jm here claims the following battery runtimes:
Since the X1700 is a more energy-efficient chip than the Go7600, you should get a little bit longer battery runtime. Both F3Jm and Jp (and other lesser F3`s) come with a 6Cell battery. F3Jv comes with a 9Cell one IIRC.

Where is the F3jv available in the US with similar specs to the one I posted on the F3jp ? Does anyone have one?

I'm not sure that Asus NA imported the jv model, only the jp one was brought in..... but resellers can correct me if wrong.

screen viewability is good... the screen ripples a little to the touch and there's some flex in it, but it's plastic so that's to be expected...

the 4-1 reader does not function with xD cards... just SD/MMC and ms/ms pro

not sure about the battery life yet... don't know how long i need to let this thing charge before unplugging it...

weight, as near as i can tell, is pretty accurate at the 6.5-7ish pound area... but i don't have a scale handy at the moment...

oh, side-to-side viewability is very good... i can read the words on this forum from roughly a 30 degree angle from the screen with no fading.. screen fading top to bottom is noticeble, but not obstructively so, it's actually a big improve over my lcd monitor...

thanks timswar...do you actually have an xD card to test with? my compaq reads xD, even though the specs said 4 in 1.... its a 5 in 1 :)

You do have the WSXGA+ spec laptop, right? if so , where did you buy it from?

no, i don't have an xD card to test with, all my equipment uses SD cards...

i got the wsxga+ from newegg.com... 1600, i considered it a reasonable point splitting the difference between the g1 and the a8jp (price versus performance... and what i really wanted was the 15.4 inch wsxga+ screen)...

btw... i unplugged it initially and under nothing but a browser and a downloader it said 2 hours 48 minutes... i don't know what that would translate to under gaming or dvd watching, i imagine it wouldn't be too pretty...

thanks timswar.. i agree that the 1600price point is a reasonable one...not great, but ok.... i m akeen on the xD, but its not a killer...

did the battery life indicator say 2h48' with wireless on or off? what was your screen brightness? can you try watching a DVD on battery life and report back as to what its life is?

    TIA!

wireless was on... but i dont think it was a good estimate... honestly, 2 hours would probably be much more reasonable (i don't trust battery life estimaters anyway)...

btw, since using more video i've discovered the viewing angle from under the screen isn't good, a lot of washing out of the video/game... but from above the screen it's quite crisp...

screen brightness was fine... watching a dvd brings it down to about and hour and forty five minutes... and the notebook has some kind of powersaver mode it goes in, i think it might disable the gpu when it's unplugged but i can't verify that (i was testing it unplugged with WoW, and it dropped from 50 fps to 15... but the game didn't hang up or run slowly which indicates the cpu was still working fine)

thanks for the update! Hows the weight on the laptop? Any chance you can run battery eater on that beast and report back those #'s like the reviewers do? Would be greatly appreciated ! :)

    TIA

only 50fps on WoW? isn't that pretty low (i never played WoW, just counter strike 1.6). i expected a lot more from the x1700, because WoW don't look like a fast past game like CS 1.6. but i planned to get the ap035p-a this year hopefully. hopefully they'll be a better one by the time i save up.
