    Hi All,

I have been reading these threads on the ASUS laptop's for a few days now. From reading I have found a lot of pro's and con's, but I am still interested in getting one. Mainly due to the spec of the laptop's and the prices.

I have come up with the F3SG laptop, I am looking for a 15.4" Screen with 2gig of RAM and a good gfx card. I am going to New Zealand soon and wish to take a laptop with me to use and store pics etc...

Also I did have a look at the F8SG, I know it has a smaller screen. But I just wanted to bring that in to the equation and see what people say.

So basically to round it up, I need a laptop that is durable and can run nicely for a few games I have and to store pics/videos of my trip.

    Thanks in advance.

Is the F3SG worth getting, and what would be a good price to pay for it. Will it be durable enough to travel with, are these pron to break or dying...as I have read a few post about ASUS overheating and cracking the tops of the laptops.

I would recommend an F8 over the F3... mainly because of the palmrest crack problem of the F3 notebooks. Which makes me doubt their build quality. On the other hand, I've heard no complaints about the quality of the F8.

Of course, they might have solved it with the refresh (F3S g). But I wouldn't bet on it...

I mention all this because you said "durable" as your first request...

(I don't know about typical prices at your location)

I have ASUS catalog in front of me, the F8SG is around £100 more then the F3SG. But I do like the 14" screen, I do need a durable laptop as I will be traveling a few places, before I get to Wellington.
Thanks for the help E.B.E, if anyone has any reviews on both of these let me know.
It will be coming with Vista Home Premium as well.

I own an F3sg for a few months now and so far its been good to me, I take it with me everytime I head of to uni and had no issues with the palmrest....yet (only time will tell). I'am more cautious with it ever since I read the "palmrest crack" thread here. All in all its a pretty reliable notebook (minus the bloatware) every since I purchased it for me.

    Hi 3pul5iv3,

Thank you for you comments, I think I will get the F8 but need to check finances etc.. first. If I can not I will get the F3sg, both look great and have simlair specs.
Does the laptop look well built and it durable ?

One of the most reputable Asus resellers are GenTechPC. I highly recommend purchasing an Asus from them :)

Other great resellers include BTOTech, ExcaliberPC and XoticPC.

Cheers fella, nice one. I will try a few of the things out tonight when I finish work. I might take some of the ASUS software off, as suggested to help speed it up.

So far the laptop is working well, I have done all Vista Updates and installed SP1 as well. I have installed one game so far and played it most of the night and the laptop was fine with that. Didnt notice any over heathing on it, I have the charger in the laptop most of the night as well.
