    Hi all

Havnt posted in this forum for a while >_<. Hope some one can help out.

Just a day or two ago a friend and I went to purchase a Asus F5R laptop. When we talked to the sales person, he said that this laptop is quiet. Thus my friend decided to the laptop (Asus F5R). However after purchasing it and mucking around with it for 2 days, we found the laptop's fan comes on very very often and if after a certain amount of use, say 1hrs, the fan will stay on for good. My friend was annoyed at this, due to one of the very reason why he brought a laptop was to have some peace and quiet. However with the fan constantly going off and on with only SECONDS in between (10-15secs in XP and 1mins in Vista) its becoming not a quiet laptop at all.

So I was wondering, does my friend have a leg to stand on when it comes to getting a refund for the laptop? Sadly from my POV, I dont think my friend has a chance, however I might be wrong. As from his POV, he brought it because the sales person said it was quiet thus he decided to buy that laptop instead of the others but with the fan going on and off and staying on... .

I found that the fan only turns on when the laptop temp reaches 39C+ . Normal operating temperature is at 45C+ thus mean the laptop fan will always be on. This is the only argument/reason that I know that is feasible in trying to get a refund.

    Input/suggestions please, all welcome .

I'd say you might want to look into getting the freeware version of Notebook Hardware Control. It has the ability to modify the laptop's ACPI profiles to control when fans turn on and how high they run. That ought to help you.

Thanks for your fast reply. Yes I have tried that, though sadly it did not work :( . Also tried SpeedFan, same result :( .

Where did you buy it from? See what their refund policy is. Most places offer you a 30 day return period. The sooner the better though.
