Hi, I own the F5VL model which originally comes with Vista OS. However, I changed the OS to XP32 and recently to Windows 7. Under all OS (Vista, XP, 7) my laptop freezes randomly. Only the cursor works and the only way to make it work is either to force shut it down or to press the media button which is next to power, e-mail, browser buttons. When I press this button Windows Media Player opens and everything works properly. Any ideas?
Thanks

Could be a hardware issue, RAM or Hard drive. I would check the HD with either the manufacturer's utility, or the check disk utility built in win 7.
If you open help in windows look for disk checking.
If no issues are found the ram can be checked as in this link:

That's a weird problem, it could be caused by your atk/acpi drivers. Try uninstalling them, rebooting, and reinstalling. If it happens in both OSes, you could try resetting your BIOS to user defaults. Checking your RAM isn't a bad idea either.

Disk and RAM checks showed no problem. BIOS set to default. As for atk/acpi drivers, I've noticed in add/remove programs that there are two ATK Hotkey programs: one is published by ASUS and the version is 1.0.0053 and the other is published by ATK and the version is 1.00.0012. Which one is correct? I reinstalled Acpi drivers and waiting for results. As I said it randomly happens maybe once in 2-3 days. Thank you for your opinions!

There is the atk generic function, atk hotkey, atk media, and atk osd2. You shouldn't have two versions of the same installed. You should get the latest version you can from ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
I'd reinstall all of them, after first uninstalling them and rebooting. -
when i uninstall the ATK Hotkey function fn + volume keys don't work...but when i install them again it has the same problem. Today again it freezes and when I press the media button it went ok....
