Specs and North America pricing are published in an multi-page Asus ad layout within the current subscriber issue of PC World. I can try to remember to get them tomorrow if no one else does in the meantime :).

well, since ClearSkies won't be able to post it til tomorrow, i hope he/she doesnt mind me doing it. i totally missed it until ClearSkies pointed it out, so i grabbed my copy of PC World, and there it was! it part of asus holiday promo.

    here are the specs:

F8P (available in white and black)
    Intel Core2Duo T7250 2.00GHz
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
14” Color Shine Widescreen display (1440x900 WXGA)
    ATI Radeon HD2400 256MB
    160GB hard drive, 1GB memory
    WLAN 802.11 A/G/N
1.3 megapixel webcam with 240 degree swivel
bluetooth V2.0+EDR; Super Multi DVD/RW dual layer
piano paint finish and leather LCD cover
    geniune leather palm rest
    carry bag and Bluetooth mouse
    5.7lbs. 13"x9.8"x1.5"
    USD $1,299 CAD $1,419

the only thing different, beside the leather and better looking build quality, is the video card. does anyone have any info on how the hd2400 preforms?
for the price and looks, its seem like a pretty good deal.

I see it's got the budget processor as well. The HD2400 ~= 8400M-GS, I believe.

It looks like a bigger U3 with a swivel webcam instead of a fixed one ... 1.5" thickness, seems really thick to me.

Approximately how much slower in graphics will this one be versus the other F8s?

You don't seem to understand that high performance components are alergic to leather... Wonder why the canadian price is higher than the US one, even though it should be less because of the high value of the CAD.

Which other F8s? This will be approximately 40% slower than the F8sa, and maybe 50% slower than the F8sv (with the 8600M-GT).

Welcome to NBR, Logrim. I agree with you... it's odd that the US price is so much lower considering the Canadian dollar is much higher at the moment. Overall, I'd say the prices are decent though... the F8 looks like a terrific machine.

I assume that this version of the F8 will run cooler, quieter, and possible have a slightly longer battery life than the other versions. I assume that it would be more than good enough for games like Civilization 4. Would that be reasonable assumptions?

It will be definitely more hten good enough for civ4 - even the integrated intel x3100 can run civ4

I actually agree with the comment about the U3s - the interiors look very similar.

I'm trying to figure out how Asus plans to sell the F8P, when it costs just $50 less than the F8Sv-A1, but has a slower processor, a MUCH slower GPU, and otherwise identical specs. Its almost like the A8Jr and A8Jp last spring....

i sorta like teh F8P's design, but with only HD2400, there's no way i'm getting it
canadians should be getting laptops cheaper too

Gotta love the CAD and USD pricing gap, what with CAD being higher than USD these days and all.

Wow.. that's definitely an awesome machine. I say it makes any Vaio or Apple envious...

I still prefer black though :)

What a very nice clean and classy look. Definitely puts Lenovo's cheesy looking leather bound executive thinkpad to shame!
