Is it worth buying right now?
Specs:
Intel Penryn T8300 (2.4ghz)
Nvidia 9500m GS 512mb
2gb memory
250gb 5400rpm hard drive
14.1 inch screen
$2000AUD
Is there anything else that has similar specs for the same price. Not interested in Dell or Acer or HP or Toshiba. Also must be available in Australia.

Whether it's worth buying depends on your needs, which we don't know. Perhaps you should fill in the FAQ on the What Should I Buy forum.

O_O
is the nvidia 9 series out already? -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Not that I've seen. Those would be the announced specs for the F8 update when it comes out sometime before June - Asus hasn't released any Penryn models yet.

They are meant to be in stores in the next week in Australia and they retail for about $2000 AUD

hi there...
check these out, plz:
http://www.campuspoint.de/shop/notebooks/hrst/asus/serien/f8/asus-f8sn-4s001g.html
2 weeks ETA if ya order tonight (and they custom ize it)
and for the 9500:
http://www.notebookcheck.com/Mobile-Grafikkarten-Benchmarkliste.735.0.html
both are german, but you should be able to get the point.
9500 is number 26, has a 3dmark06 of 3670
8600 GT is number 28, 3dmark06 3297
both without overclocking or special drivers as far as i know! -
Well is the 9500 using DDR2 or DDR3 memory? The thing is, that benchmark failed to state which one the 8600m GT is using, which should be DDR2, because mine does 3400 stock. An 8600m GT with DDR3 is much higher at around 3700-3800 3Dmarks 06 right in the range of the 9500m GS. So if the 9500GS is also using DDR3, then I can say that there is no difference in performance between the 2 graphic cards, infact the specification sheets pretty much confirms that as well.
The only thing that the F8SN would be worth buying is the Penryn refresh(T8300), it should be cooler, run a bit faster, and get a bit more battery life. So it should be more superior to the F8SV/A/P counterparts. -
they tell the test-system was a asus M50SV with 512 mb and Penryn 9300
http://www.notebookcheck.com/NVIDIA-GeForce-9500M-GS.7635.0.html
but this site is an austrian site and well accepted as one of the best and accurate information sources for lapies and notebook for german speakers so the results should be compareable with each other -
F8SP is the same as the F8SN except for the graphics card. F8SP has ATI hd3650 which should perform better than the 9500m GS
Asus F8SN
