Well, my brother fell on my laptop and now the display needs to be replaced. :(

I found a new display on ebay, it says it's for the F8S series notebooks. Now my question is, can I change it with this new display?
    LG 14'' inch LCD screen f ASUS F8S N8 BENQ S42 Dell OEM on eBay.ca (item 150462961844 end time 29-Mar-11 04:43:05 EDT)

It say's its 1600 X 900, my old one is 1280 x 800. On the listing, it says resolutions cannot be upgraded. I don't know what they mean by that, I do know this model notebook could be sold with a larger resolution display. I'd actually prefer to up the resolution a little bit if possible, otherwise I'll just get the 1280 x 800 model I found.

Hope you guys can shed some light on this :)

    Thanks!

The one you posted does not fit at all!

Your old screen is 14.1" and has 16:10 aspect ratio. The one on the e-bay is 14.0" and has 16:9 aspect ratio. Look for 14.1" screens, nothing else...

One more hint: If you are looking to boost your resolution, look for 1440 x 900 (14.1") screens. I am currently using one and could not be happier.

Thank you for the response sir, I really appreciate it. I kind of figured the 14.0 and 14.1 meant something. Glad I didn't purchase it. Back to ebay :)

Edit: Found this so far: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ASUS-F8-F8P-F8SA...112?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f288b5b8

I still can't get over that he did this...

I have been able to change the way it displays, but never gotten it to go back to normal. I found the ribbon cable that's causing it. I think something shorted at one point to be honest :(

If I were you, I would:

1- Break all the bones of my brother. :p
2- Open up the LCD bezel and check the ribbon connector on the LCD side. It might got loosened causing partial images (not sure though).
3- Check the ribbon connector on the motherboard side.
4- If still doesn't work, buy the LCD on the second ebay link and give it a try.

Done all those, all I can do is make the image change a little bit. Still missing half the screen :(

Looks I have to buy the display. Oh well, he will be purchasing it at least lol

Let me do a favor to you: My laptop is a F8Va which looks exactly the same as F8Sn (it is the Montevina refresh of yours). I have just checked my LCD from the Everest and it is CMO "N141C3-L02".

This is a 14.1" LCD with 1440 x 900 resolution which should be fully compatible to yours. AFAIK, some models of F8Sn (F8Sn-C1) came with this resolution.

If you search for "N141C3-L02" on google, you will find several of them (including ebay). If your only option is to replace your LCD, give this a try. You will get a nice resolution boost.

The part number off my display, N141I3-L02

Not really sure which way I will go, about a $30 difference. Will have to think about it for a bit.

Thanks for your help, I'll post back with which one I go with.
