could you give us a break down of the scores on here so everyone is not clicking at once? i really want one of these, but a little nervous, it seems this is the only place on the net talking about them? i mean, this is a good forum but some of the post seem a little to loving of products. but i think i am sold on the f8sv b1, i just want to compare it to the a1.
    thanks

its not led. only the u6s comes with led. I thought the screen was fantasmic,. in general when you compare a 1440x900 14" to a 1280x800 14" you will find the higher resolution is more vivid and sometimes more bright. Excellent wide view angles. Not so great vertical as always. the notebook is missing only 2 things. an hdmi port and esata. other then that i think it is a great deal. i especially like the fact that it shares the same battery with the a8 series. that will ensure the availability of this battery for years to come

On stock it gets around that in 3dmark06, as it has a GDDR3 card and a 1280x800 screen. It's really aimed at quite a similar market as the F8sv, both being exactly the same weight, and very similar dimensions, with similar gaming performance.

I'd still go with the F8Sv....Its smaller (footprint-wise), has a higher resolution screen, a much better warranty, costs less, and isn't a Dell ;)

As for the video, wow....23kbps dl speed....Someone want to get this onto a torrent?

Hehe, I got it, finally. It took long enough though, seriously. As for Comcast cutting internet off with torrents, never had that happen to me... o_O

Something I noted from the video that I did not happen to notice before - the top edge of the LCD bezel is quite thick....Kinda reminds me of the new Gateway T1616, actually.

Ive heard reports of similar problems. What happens is ill be DLing fine for awhile then it starts to slow the speed down quickly, and 30 sec later nothing works, no web browser, nothin. I go into network connections, disable then enable my lan connection and everything works again. If I try to DL again through utorrent it starts throttling back almost right away. I now do all my dling at work where we have qwest DSL, where they either dont monitor or care about their network traffic. I guess I should try another torrent program even though i force encrypted data.

you can instalkl your own water proofing. Just remove the kb as shown in the video and add a bit of "water-proofing". Most people will not do it them selves. i was just apauled to see that asus does not do this on all their models now that they offer accidental warranty, that is just pure stupidity and a lack of foresight. Quality control and the development team missed that too. why not get a spill proof keyboard? how much extra can it cost? 50 cents?

Not all the time. we host 30 + videos that are all about 50mb or more always being downloaded. Periodically i will change the folder so the links will not work in places where i dont update them. that is our forum and this forum.

i gererally get atleast 200. if you got such a low number you probably hit it at a peak time

Did you shoot the footage in widescreen originally? I watched it again and noticed that the USB ports are more square than normal and the shot of the power button is oval.

Hey, good video, but I would have liked more on body feel, noise, etc. Loved the swivel thing, made for a good video. Still can't decide between this and the G1S-A1...

Haha, "and there goes the power supply".

there was very little noice @ idle. what do you want to see on the body? i thought the video showed all the important stuff. if you are asking me to check for flex i feel that issue is most trivial. for a few reasons
    1. people asociate flex with quality, that is very wrong
    2. people think less flex equals better reliability, again that is very wrong
    3. you have to be a picky sob to consider flex in a case as a negative
I can understand some people are picky about the keyboard. The video does examine all the important aspects of the keyboard

Great video. The first time I've heard the company pronounced "a-soos", normally I've heard "a-sis".

Anyway, I was wondering the make/model of the LCD. For a while, people were comparing the A8 LCD options (AUO, CMO, Samsung, LG). Which model comes with this F8, is it a totally different model than the A8?

    Nice review.

What is the procedure for removing the keyboard?

The specs for the b1 indicate that it has a lightscribe optical drive - presumably the drive is therefore different from the a1 - what is the make/model?

No need to open the LCD. This thread from Stamar shows how to look up the model number, either with device manager or a program called Everest.

In english, many __us words like fungus and lexus are pronounced the same way as "all of us". That's probably why I've never heard asoos or all of ooos. But english has never been consistant either.

your answer is in the video. why not watch it/?
1530 is an entirely different class laptop. with the same specs and warranty it is well over 500$ more expensive, it is also a 15.4" not 14"

the video wasnt working on my current laptop, so i watched it on my roommates comp.
...less than 2 hours, im so disappointed, especially since i waited since the summer for it ... i think i will opt for the xps m1530 though.
their screen size are different, but they're comparable in terms of weight.

right now i can config the xps for, with the savings and 200$ off coupon, less than the f8sv-b1, with about the same specs and 6&9-cell battery. but im going to wait for the higher res screens to be released.

btw, thanks for the fantastic review. all reviews should be done by video, it get you more up close and personal with the comp reviewed. :D

ya i have been looking at the f8sv b1 too. but i think i am going to wait for the m1530 to have a better screen. i mean about the same size about the same weight, but the dell has a better bat and the benchmark scores are in the 4000's which is amazing for that size of a laptop. i might wait to see how much the alienware m15x will weight but i think it will be close to the 10 lb mark. so dell hurry up and get a screen that can support the blueray player.
