damn thats a long upload time. how big is this 4 gigs?
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
original size is actually almost 4 gb. i reduced it to a mere 100mb. my upload speed is very slow. about 20% done now. should be in a few hours. i just estimated midnight. if everyone starts clicking the same time then nobody will be avle to download it.
-
could you give us a break down of the scores on here so everyone is not clicking at once? i really want one of these, but a little nervous, it seems this is the only place on the net talking about them? i mean, this is a good forum but some of the post seem a little to loving of products. but i think i am sold on the f8sv b1, i just want to compare it to the a1.
thanks -

3dmark was just over 3300 on the base. i dont recall the other scores and i cant open the video while it is uploading. the 3dmark and ntune scores are about half way into the 7 min review
-
how is the screen? is led backlit? do you notice anything physically different from the a1? and thtats 3300 on 3dmark06 right?
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
its not led. only the u6s comes with led. I thought the screen was fantasmic,. in general when you compare a 1440x900 14" to a 1280x800 14" you will find the higher resolution is more vivid and sometimes more bright. Excellent wide view angles. Not so great vertical as always. the notebook is missing only 2 things. an hdmi port and esata. other then that i think it is a great deal. i especially like the fact that it shares the same battery with the a8 series. that will ensure the availability of this battery for years to come
-
can't download the video...

-
-
i think he meant to say is "now live"
as we can download it -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
that was a typo. i make lots of them
-
humm i love this laptop but i cant decide between this and the dell m1530 they are the same size and weight but the dell has ddr3... and scores of 4400. damn it i DONT want a dell, dude.
arhh to many decisions -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
very different laptops there. the 1530 look sliek a 15.4" and is alot more expensove with the same specs and warranty. scores 4400 points on what? overclocked?
-
-
I'd still go with the F8Sv....Its smaller (footprint-wise), has a higher resolution screen, a much better warranty, costs less, and isn't a Dell
As for the video, wow....23kbps dl speed....Someone want to get this onto a torrent? -
)
-
great review, is this going to become a trend with all the newer notebooks?
-
Something I noted from the video that I did not happen to notice before - the top edge of the LCD bezel is quite thick....Kinda reminds me of the new Gateway T1616, actually. -
-
Downloaded in 4 minutes.. your upload is really good!
Thanks very much for the video!
Edit: It was really great! Thanks very much for that! I can't wait to have mine! -
Is there any way to install waterproof keyboards after market?
-

you can instalkl your own water proofing. Just remove the kb as shown in the video and add a bit of "water-proofing". Most people will not do it them selves. i was just apauled to see that asus does not do this on all their models now that they offer accidental warranty, that is just pure stupidity and a lack of foresight. Quality control and the development team missed that too. why not get a spill proof keyboard? how much extra can it cost? 50 cents?

i gererally get atleast 200. if you got such a low number you probably hit it at a peak time -
Eddie
Did you shoot the footage in widescreen originally? I watched it again and noticed that the USB ports are more square than normal and the shot of the power button is oval. -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
yes always wide screen, you should not have an issue as the video is encoded in wide screen
-
Hmm. nero showtime (pos program btw, just didnt have VLC on my lappy yet) sqaures it up but now that I remembered to put on VLC on, its all normal!
-
Hey, good video, but I would have liked more on body feel, noise, etc. Loved the swivel thing, made for a good video. Still can't decide between this and the G1S-A1...
Haha, "and there goes the power supply". -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
there was very little noice @ idle. what do you want to see on the body? i thought the video showed all the important stuff. if you are asking me to check for flex i feel that issue is most trivial. for a few reasons
1. people asociate flex with quality, that is very wrong
2. people think less flex equals better reliability, again that is very wrong
3. you have to be a picky sob to consider flex in a case as a negative
I can understand some people are picky about the keyboard. The video does examine all the important aspects of the keyboard -
Great video. The first time I've heard the company pronounced "a-soos", normally I've heard "a-sis".
Anyway, I was wondering the make/model of the LCD. For a while, people were comparing the A8 LCD options (AUO, CMO, Samsung, LG). Which model comes with this F8, is it a totally different model than the A8? -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
no idea i did not think to rip open the lcd because i liked it alot. asus is pronounced asooos
-
Nice review.
What is the procedure for removing the keyboard?
The specs for the b1 indicate that it has a lightscribe optical drive - presumably the drive is therefore different from the a1 - what is the make/model? -
In english, many __us words like fungus and lexus are pronounced the same way as "all of us". That's probably why I've never heard asoos or all of ooos. But english has never been consistant either. -
ASUS name is taken from "Pegasus"
... so it depends on how you say Pegasus -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
if you call asus directly the on air commercials say "asooos" although i like to call them "haysus" in person.
-
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
i would venture to say most of asus customers for notebooks are not native english speakers. I know i am not and i know most of our customers are not. so that explains it
-
Yea, that's probably why then.
-
ok, now that thats aside...
i still can't decide if i want to go for this system or the dell 1530...
battery life is a serious factor, hows the b1 battery life? -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
1530 is an entirely different class laptop. with the same specs and warranty it is well over 500$ more expensive, it is also a 15.4" not 14" -
...less than 2 hours, im so disappointed, especially since i waited since the summer for it ... i think i will opt for the xps m1530 though.
their screen size are different, but they're comparable in terms of weight.
right now i can config the xps for, with the savings and 200$ off coupon, less than the f8sv-b1, with about the same specs and 6&9-cell battery. but im going to wait for the higher res screens to be released.
btw, thanks for the fantastic review. all reviews should be done by video, it get you more up close and personal with the comp reviewed. -
ya i have been looking at the f8sv b1 too. but i think i am going to wait for the m1530 to have a better screen. i mean about the same size about the same weight, but the dell has a better bat and the benchmark scores are in the 4000's which is amazing for that size of a laptop. i might wait to see how much the alienware m15x will weight but i think it will be close to the 10 lb mark. so dell hurry up and get a screen that can support the blueray player.

that is why We have a whole thread dedicated to video reviews on all asus models. Prior to this one i did not have voice over. Vx2s and r1e with voice over coming on monday -
I'm so excited for those two reviews. Any review for the V1S and V2S??
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
v1s and v2s video reviews i posted long time ago. no voice over on those though
-
If only they decided to put an eSATA port on this thing or a eSATA/USB combo port on it.
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
if they did that and added a dock option as well as a modular bay it would be a perfect laptop
