Forgive me if this sounds doumb, but if I don't need the 15in screen and 1600x1050, then wouldn't I be better off with the f8vs? It has the same vid card (right?) and It'll only need to cope with 1440x900 or whatever that 14in screen is? What else am I not seeing? I like my g1, but I really hate carrying around the weight. I missed the sony SZ size and weight.

If the specs i found is correct. The F8sv has 8600GT DDR2 256 MB. This is slower then the G1S which has DDR3 256MB.
Prosessor, CPU, is also a tad slower. T7300 vs G1S's T7500.

I'm not 100% sure the data on the F8 is correct, but i think it is. CPU differense wont matter much, the DDR2/DDR3 difference however will! G1S with DD3 256 MB scores 1500-1800 points more then its competitors with 8600GT DDR2 512 MB. That alone shows how much bettter DDR3 is compared to DDR2.

If the F8 has DDR2 256 which is half the memory compared to the DDR2 512MB, your laptop will score significantly lower.

I also might do the same thing as you but the ddr2 and ddr3 wont matter that much in terms of in game performance, but you will see synthetic benchmark tests will go down as Irathi has suggested

Excaliber is taking pre-orders on the F8sv-A1, and it is the T7500 processor. I cant find anything about the video memory, but since its $350 cheaper than the G1S I wouldnt think it can outperform it, but who knows. Could you link where you got the specs Irathi?

Edit- I also think that the 1500-1800 difference between the gddr2 and gddr3 8600gt cards is a bit exaggerated, unless you are going by stock on the gddr2 and max OC on the gddr3. From what I have seen it is about 800 points, easily found by comparing the C90 and the G1S.

    NBR G1S review - 3dmark06 3816
Alex on Fyres review of the C90 - 3dmark06 3011 (before OC)

I do agree that the G1S is likely to remain the gaming champ between the two, but it will be interesting to see how the F8 performs since the resolution is lower, gddr2 or otherwise.

800pts still seems kinda alot. Drivers normally make a difference of 200pts at most. 800 when you're talking about scoring under 2k pts, is alot. I need to read a full review of that new puppy. When does it come out?

They both scored 3000 or more, and although I agree the G1S is likely the better gamer, the c90 and other gddr2 8600gt's do just fine gaming.

Excaliber told me they were looking at 2-3 weeks, I think they are hoping for that since the F8sv is going to be advertised in the Sep issue of PC World which will be on newsstands in early to mid August. Hopefully they're right!
