So, I'm considering these two Asus laptops as my next purchase. Most of their specs seem identical:

    - ASUS F9 Series F9Sg-A1 Intel Core 2 Duo T8100(2.10GHz) 12.1" Wide XGA 3GB Memory 250GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9300M G NoteBook

    vs.

    - ASUS U6 Series U6Sg-A1 Intel Core 2 Duo T8100(2.10GHz) 12.1" Wide XGA 3GB Memory 250GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9300M G NoteBook

The only printed difference in the specs is the size: The U6 is about is an inch smaller in width than the F9 and is about 0.74 lbs lighter. But aside from the size, I'm also curious to compare some other aspects as well:

    - Build Quality
    - Heat (the review for the F9 mentioned that the laptop got really hot, but I'm wondering how its heat output is compared to the U6)

And overall, for those of you who have perhaps seen both laptops, is the price increase of the U6 (about $400-500) worth the extra lightness and whatever other advantages it offers over the F9?

I don't have experience with these laptops, but the U is theoretically a higher-end series than the F, so you might expect better reliability and build quality (again, theoretically).

In practice, some high-end series laptops like the V1 haven't fared too well in build quality and reliability, while the F-series F8 is doing quite well in both areas...

So I wouldn't bet that it's worth paying 500 more. Research from your side, and/or users' opinions for both models, are necessary to make a decision.

There is also a large styling difference, but there you can decide based on the photos.

    Hi guys,

here in Singapore the Asus U6SG has an T9300 as the F9 serie has the T8300.
As well you get more goodies when u purchase the U6SG.
Additionally for some people important, the U series is made in Taiwan and the F series in China.

I presume that you read Pulp's F9 review from December?

The F9 is Asus' budget 12" laptop. The U6 is getting good reviews from users, and has different build materials etc. You pay more for that, but whether it's worth the price difference [~$300 @ BTOTech] is a choice for you alone :).
