After reading this review http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4700 of the ASUS G50Vt-X1 I was wondering if other users have gotten similarly poor screens with their laptops (bad viewing angles, light leakage, etc). Do all G Series models (X1, X5, X6,...) have similar screens or do certain models' screens look better than others?

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

    Thanks,
    Ed

i did a lot of research for the a2 and the light leakage problem was actually a software issue, if you uninstall one of the pre-loaded programs for something, i forget exactly which, there is an acceptably low amount of light leakage.

i forget which models have which screen but the screens with higher res are better in a lot of ways. so you get what you pay for with the G series, and i get the feeling a lot of the money that you pay for with the more expensive G series go into the screen.

but this is all based on research and not experience, maybe i'm wrong.

All of the G series LCDs from BestBuy have a 1366x768 lower res screen than the models you'll find on Newegg and GentechPC, etc. Examples are G50Vm-X1, G50Vt-X1 and G50Vt-X5. The reason why the laptops at BB are so much cheaper are because of changes like this. So yes, you get what you pay for.

The ones at bestbuy are not terrible screens. However, I went from a G1 and it was a bit of a disappointment. If the other G50s are anything like a G1 (can anybody comment on this) then they are excellent screens.

The G1 series (and C90S) had a 1680x1050 CMO screen which is the best 15" screen IMO. The ones in the G50Vt series uses a different brand (can't remember which one), but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a CMO. The one in my G50V-A1 isn't at all bad. (can't really comment on the G50Vt-X1/5)

The ones on G50v, well mine anyways, is AUO, AU Optronics. It's not a bad screen, but I'm hoping to up it into a WUXGA Matte screen since the glare is really annoying for me :p
