Well... I've had my Asus G1 for about 5-6 weeks now I believe. When I first received it, a small piece of the laptop had fallen off in the protective bag. I posted about it here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=111892

Not really that big of a deal -- aesthetics. But it made me concerned about the build quality. I thought "If this piece wasn't glued on, what else hasn't been glued on?"

After getting rid of Vista and installing XP Pro, I noticed an odd screen flickering problem, which I posted about here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=112240

3 weeks of hardly any use (a total of 7 hours probably) go by and the right speaker stops working. I contacted Danny at MilestonePC and he told me to get in touch with Asus and have it shipped back to them. Called Asus Tech Support and talked with a fellow named Albert. He said that they would e-mail me an RMA with instructions and I could be refunded for the shipping cost. I told him that my G1 had been custom ordered through MilestonePC with a T7600 processor and 7200RPM hard drive. He said that he could not guarantee I would recieve those components back since they did not originally come with the system. I contacted Danny about this and he told me not to worry about it... that they wouldn't mess with my parts.

Anyway, tommorow will be a week since I talked to Albert and I have not received an e-mail with an RMA and instructions. I've called Asus two times since then and gave them my case number and confirmed my main e-mail address and also gave them a second e-mail address they could e-mail me at.

Can't help but feel disappointed. I spent a lot of money on this notebook with expectations of it lasting a while -- however, I'm sending it back to the manufacturer to have it repaired after only 7 hours of use. I fully understand that things like this happen, but the untimely response from Asus isn't helping my patience (or my nerves).

Going to e-mail them just to reconfirm that my e-mail addresses are correct... maybe they didn't understand me with my southern twang accent. But make no mistake... the G1 is a very powerful laptop. It has run all of my Steam Powered games perfectly and I'm about 2 hours into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I just want it to last and after spending $2400, I don't think that's too much to ask.

what kind of setting are u running STALKER on? Is the 7700 that much more powerful than the x1600? I ran STALKER in low everything and it was barely playable so eventually I gave up.

I am sorry to hear about your problems. I've had mine about 3 weeks and have been very happy. Nothing scares people away from a company like the problems/lack of support you are getting. I hope things get better for you.

I had the same problem with Stalker running pathetically low... until I switched lighting to "Static." The game now runs at maximum settings without any slowdown in speed.
