    Hello,

Back in January I got a G1 laptop... the LCD screen went haywire on me and had to be replaced after just 10 days. Recently, in the last month or so, I started getting some odd headaches. I thought it was stress with school, but the quarter is over and they are still around. Anyways, I ran into one web site today and noticed my screen has a HUGE flicker issue. The bottom gradient really brings it out:

    - I thought power source (AC), but the issue remains whether I'm plugged in or not.
    - Tried different brightness settings, same thing.
    - Removed all electronics from near the laptop, turned cell off, same thing.
    - ASUS Power control application turned off - same still.
    - NVIDIA drivers? Update? The GEFORCE GO 7700 is not listed anywhere. It's as if it doesn't exist.

What else can I do that might fix this? The flicker is nasty, though I admit I had not noticed it until I ran into this web site - now I can see it's definitely there.

    Suggestions are welcome!

My laptop screen flickers as well. It's a TFT technology limitation, not a malfunction. There's nothing you can do about it.

That being said, some screens are worse and some are better. But the choice of screen on a given laptop is very limited so you can't know if you can improve on the issue at all. Furthermore, replacing LCD probably voids warranty.

On the other thread where you posted the flicker problem was different, the LCD was flickering in terms of brightness and it was due to the inverter board. That's a very cheap part (and not very difficult to replace). The LCD itself, however, is not either of these things.

It was replaced by Asus under warranty.

The flicker is quite bad. I've had other laptops and have never seen anything this bad before (it gives me very odd painful headaches). So I can't imagine it to be normal.

Sure, but they replaced it, not you :)

Maybe you have a particularly bad LCD in that respect? But if it ONLY shows on that website (i.e., with the stripes model) is it really an issue? If it does show in typical usage cases, then yes, it's an issue; otherwise not.

If it was working fine and just stopped working and continually does it, I'd the inverter is probably bad and you should probably just send it in for service. That's if you see backlight flicker, which is usually more evident on lighter backgrounds.

Otherwise, maybe it could also be possible there is a wire being pinched/damaged/worn from opening and closing the laptop enough? Not quite sure where the inverter is located on the G1...

Either way, if it's under warranty, I'd send it in.

But first, we should determine if it only shows in that particular situation (horizontal thin lines). If so, I don't think it's the inverter.

    Hello!

It's fairly obvious on that particular background, due to the stripes; however if I concentrate on the screen I can tell something is not right - for example, the box on the left is flashing a bit (dark/bright/dark/bright).

I'm not in the U.S. at the moment. I wonder how service in Italy is...

I'd wait until back in US if it's not too long.
