Which one is better. Asus G1s is DirectX 10 compatible with Santa Rosa whereas G1 isn't but has more VRAM. Which one is better. I really need your opinion on this

Graphics card power is not just about the VRAM on it.. The 8600 GT M is more powerful card then the 7700 and gives performance that is near to the 7900GS..

So basically, if you want better graphics card then the 7700 and need it DirectX 10 compatible to play latest games in DirectX 10 then the Asus G1S is the way to go..

G1S is much better. Aside from the 8600M GT (which is much more powerful than a GeForce 7700 Go, regardless of VRAM), it also has additional features that the G1 didn't have, like an HDMI port and an ExpressCard slot.

    Hellgate London
    Bioshock
    Crysis
Those are some DX10 games that will be released shortly. You can still run those games but it wont be in pretty DX10.

It really depends what you are doing with the laptop. I own the G1P and it does what i need it to do and i love it. However, G1S is a beast and is a nice buy. If you are buying new...definately get the G1S since the price difference is only 300 dollars.

Very few notebooks have upgradeable graphics cards.. This one doesn't. Read the sticky before posting a question.

The G1S has a different platform/chipset or motherboard if I may (now called Santa Rosa) which amongst other things offer faster front speed bus (800 Mhz versus 600 Mhz of the G1P).

Even though both are very similar in looks, they have different chassis so the new video card can fit.

I have the G1S and i think its the best bang for the buck as far as gaming laptops go. I can run bioshock on max(res dumbed down a little) and crysis on medium specs....which is pretty good
