    G3 19" notebook :D ?

No thanks, too heavy for me :p

But a 7900 in G2 will be nice.

I don't remember if he specified a size, but I was thinking...
Asus is planning their next "gamer" notebook for "first half of 2007" (last I've heard) and it's stated that it's going to have a 7900... Now I'm not that familiar with Asus's strategy, but in my mind it suggests that an Asus laptop with a dedicated DX10 card isn't coming so soon.
You would think that they would maybe hint at something greater and allow them to fall back to a 7900 ("our next G is going to come with a 'better card'"); instead of low-balling the future possibilities ("it will have a 7900").

Just my feelings, I'm probably off-track, but it will be an interesting next few months...

Different regions get different configurations. Several of the resellers on this forum has posted the correct information for the US.

According to their description, the G1 Newegg sells has a PC card slot and no Express Card. Is that accurate? When I Googled the exact model they sell (G1-AK008M) I didn't find any info.

Also, the claimed 2 hour battery life is a serious turn off for me.
Other than that i'd be all over this.

I have to agree with Danko on the battery life being a little disappointing. The review of the G1 in another thread had the battery life at only 1.5 hours on full load, and about 2 hours on energy saving mode. Looking at the battery, it would be nice if they offered a battery upgrade similar to the 12-cell upgrade HP offers on their laptops.

Even the MileStonePC website lists that the G1 does not have an Express Card slot. I am not even sure whether the G1 was ever spec'd to include an Express Card slot.

EDIT: I also notice that laptops usually come with one or the other, not both.

Word on the street is that the initial shipment was only two dozen units to all of NA. Probably most people will not get in on this first batch.

um the reason laptops describe either pc card or express card is because those are the same thing

you might be thinking of pcmia that is the older tech.

Perhaps Express Card can be referred to as a PC Card but it is definitely different than the Type I/II PC Card slot that the G1 ships with.

Anybody knows if in the G1 (or in today's modern ASUS laptops in general) utilize FireWire 800 for the 1394 port they contain? Most spec sheets I find only vaguely list "1394" instead of "1394a" or "1394b" for FireWire 400 & FireWire 800, respectively.

ive never seen a laptop with that. even the macs.

I take that back machines like the dell 8600 had powered ports back in the day.

Usually when something has 1394b they will make sure you know about it. When it just says 1394 it's almost always 400.

yes well the 400 version would be the LAPTOP version after all, the connection that doesnt allow it to suck out all the batteries juice in 2 seconds, and the 800 would be the 24/7 ac version for a desktop.

that said they do make express card powered firewire cards to try and fight against nature with.
