    Hey NBRers,
I have an Asus G1P and I was hoping someone might know how to "fix" this issue I am having with my notebook. The DVD rom I have is extremely slow when installing video games. When I installed Company of Heroes it took 6 hours to complete the installation. But when watching a DVD movie or playing a music cd it runs perfectly fine. I have a 7200 rpm harddrive in the laptop. Even when installing starcraft it was slower than what it should have been. Any ideas?

    Thank you!
    Steve

Is DMA(Direct Memory Access) enabled or disabled? It should be enabled.

Asus seems to be having a problem with faulty optical drives. If it is in DMA. I would suggest RMAing your drive.

I don't think the optical drive is modular in the G1 series, it's built-in. You'll have to send the notebook in to Asus NA, unfortunately.

Well, not necessarily. You can ask the service person, you might be allowed to just unscrew it and send it in (it's usually one or two screws).

It is quite a pain to send in my entire laptop. If they tell me to do that i will do some serious complaining. Thanks for all your help, I am gonna give them a call soon.

You can probably remove it, most can - though you need to take out half a dozen screws. Best to contact ASUS and see what your best method to work around that.
