Ah, yea, CC's needs to be held and cashed in and verified. Don't ask why, I don't know neither but no matter where you buy using a CC, it'll take a while. You could of opted to pay via EMT if your bank was eligible, much faster.

yup no matter how advanced the banking system gets, the cheque clearing system always takes a long time for no particular reason. it's retarded but then again, what would bankers do if they didnt have these stupid procedures to go through, they'd be like politicians :p

Well I guess its too late now haha, Ill wait. But it sucks haha. I was just wondering if it was normal that they'd have to hold my cheque for 10 business days. Bu Im glad you answered me and now I know its normal so thank you!

Now the guy that told me theyd have to hold it for 10 days asked me I wanted them to send my cheque back haha I said Nooo!! dont do that haha but I avent had any response from him yet so I hope they wont do that. Pobably not cause when they have a 2000$ CDN cheque in their hands, they probably dont want to lose it haha (=

In the US we have a system called Check 21 where a bank can have a check cleared in an hours time tops... As a result, most banks have 1 or 2 days turnaround times on clearing funds on US Banks...

The new system allows banks to fax checks to other banks and have them cleared electronically. The old system required them to give the checks to the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) who flew them on planes to the FRB serving the city where the other bank was located. Then the FRB would deliver the check to the bank it was written on and they would then clear the check and give the money to the depositing bank. As you could imagine the old system was very slow and costly... Hence why the new system was developed...

Canada (if that's where you used NCIX as they serve both the US and Canada) is thinking about implementing a similar system, last I heard.

But ultimately it could be NCIX continuing to have an outdated policy.

Don't jump the bandwagon to blame bankers...

The reason they do that is because of scammers. They can send you a fake check and the business would deposit it in their account. Ten days later, it is found that the check is bad/fake and then the business is screwed out of the money.
