So I was at school today and a kid Ive never seen in my school walked into our computer lab where I was configuring this old Cisco Router and asked if he could donate a laptop. I told him as long as he has the adapter its fine. He told me that it doesn't turn on anymore and that he recently got a new laptop and didn't really have a use for it anymore. Personally i expected just another old Mac book but he ran to his locker and came back with a G1S. This caught me completely off guard and i was personally amazed that he was just going to donate it. I spent the whole hour and a half period trying to figure out why this thing wont boot. Reset the bios by taking out the battery already and all that good stuff. Unscrewed the keyboard and made sure that the power button was connected to the motherboard and also used a multimeter to test whether or not power was getting from the A/C outlet to the actual motherboard. When i was testing that my teacher walked over and we both noticed inconsistent readings but we both weren't sure if that was the main reason. If anyone's had problems with G1S's like this a quick fix or even something technical would be appreciated and even a list of parts i need to order would be nice. Going off to college soon and I'd really like to have a decent laptop that i didn't have to pay for. ^^

It's most likely a fried GPU. It happens to many G1S owners. The GPU is soldered to the mother board, so you'll probably have to send it in to Asus to have the mobo/GPU replaced.

Yup, it sounds like a fried GPU that has plagued so many G1S owners. Mine has been at the service center for 2 weeks now. Today they call me and say it will be another 2 weeks before they have the parts in!

I'm guessing they have a mountain of broken G1S notebooks that all need new motherboards. Oh well, kudos to them for making the call and keeping me up to date of the situation
