Hello to everyone in this forum! I recently purchased an Asus G1S, and frankly I couldn't be happier with it when I received it. Unfortunately, 2 weeks after the purchase, I noticed one dead pixel almost in the center of the screen, and one hot pixel near the top right corner. I know that pixel errors are supposed to be "quite common" for large resolution LCDs, but personally, I believe that any faulty pixel for a brand new machine is simply unacceptable. My problem is that this situation is not covered from the warranty, since they need 3 or more stuck/dead pixels in an 15mm diameter area, and furthermore both of them are in an area where, even if I try not to notice them, I can still spot them like a sniper.

I wanted to ask, if anyone knows where I could buy a replacement LCD for my G1S (1680x1050). I know there are certain shops, but so far I haven't found any that provide G1S screens. My other option would be to send the laptop to Asus and pay € 500 (= $688), something that I am not exactly looking forward to... Also, if anyone has any suggestion/experience, please feel free to share them.

There is software out there that might unstick your pixels.

Google for 'fix dead pixels' or 'fix stuck pixels' and you'll find it.

I think it's worth trying this before paying a whole load of money for a new LCD.

Thank you for your reply. I have already tried this, but it won't do no good. Besides, a dead pixel cannot be revived as easily as a stuck one... I never thought I would say this but I actually wish for a few more stuck/dead pixels, just to be accepted by the warranty  !

I've not read the specifics, but doesn't Asus offer a 30 day no dead pixel guarantee? Wouldn't you still be covered - or is that just marketing bull?

Asus has a policy where they will exchange the LCD screen if you have a single bright pixel. You have to have at least 3 'dead' pixels for them to exchange the screen.

Note the terms: bright pixel is a pixel that is permanently bright of a fixed color - these are the most annoying. Dead pixels cannot illuminate anything and are thus black - these are not so bad and may just appear as tiny specks of dirt, if even noticeable in the first place.

Here's the link to ASUS ZBD (zero bright dot) policy: http://event.asus.com/notebook/zbd/

Furthermore, ASUS only offers the ZBD on selected models. I'm not sure the G1S qualifies for it.

    Taken from the Asus Website:
Currently, the ZBD Policy only applies to 3 models, including the W1, W2, V6, and M6 notebook series.

Hm...that's a pity..I wonder why only these models... Btw, I have found a site for replacement screens, however no Asus (at least not original Asus, and from the looks of it no G1S whatsoever)...

I envy Samsung owners, as far as I know they have a Zero-Pixel-Policy for all lcds. :(

Those models are high-end business models.

I don't know why the newer business models don't have it.

That page is fairly old - I tried to find an actual ASUS link but failed to. But, it is common knowledge to most ASUS buyers that all ensemble laptops have the ZBD policy.

Whenever you buy a laptop from online vendors, they'd usually list features (including warranty) that comes with the laptop. For example, this vendor here: http://store.agearnotebooks.com/asusg1sa1.html clearly states that the G1S has the ZBD policy.

you said you had one "hot" pixel. if it is not a dead pixel but a stuck one, you should be able to get it serviced.

Where did you order it from? Some of the online retailers have 30 day return policies... Also I know that buying a new LCD is pricey and often difficult to install ...

I bought the laptop from Laptops Direct UK. They had an option for pre-delivery inspection (which I took), and also to return the notebook within 7 days from delivery for any problem whatsoever. My problem is that I discovered the pixels after 2 weeks (discovered them, this does not mean they where NOT there when the laptop was delivered), so I cannot claim that option. I contacted them, they directed me to Asus. I called Asus, and they said that I can have the monitor replaced if I have 3 pixels or more, although without the 15mm-diameter restriction... which comes in contrast with the website...

Michadeon, I think you perhaps miscommunicated with ASUS.

You should tell them that you specifically have 1 bright pixel. That alone constitutes a replacement of the screen, no questions asked. Is it not a fixed, bright dot that is annoying you? Those fixed, bright dots are much more rare and hence the reason for their swift replacement in the ZBD policy. ZBD means Zero Bright Dots, verbatim. That means a single bright pixel (e.g. bright green, usually) warrants a replacement.

ASUS is referring to 'dead' pixels (e.g. pixels with no light and thus appear black). Most dead pixels are unnoticeable unless a few of them are proximal to each other, making them more noticeable as if you have dirt on your screen (hence the reason why they will only replace your screen if you have 3 dead pixels within a small area restriction).

ASUS is using people's lack of knowledge of dead and fixed/bright pixels to their advantage and it's up to the user to clearly inform ASUS what is defective about their screens.

I think all Asus Laptops qualify for the ZBD policy...Just cool them up you should still have 2 weeks like to get the LCD replaced free of charge.
