So I just ordered my new G1S a few days ago, and can't wait to get it... However I was wondering, how easy will it be in the future to put in a new video card if at all possible? I know RAM and HD are an obvious yes, but with the video card I was unsure... Any answers are appreciated.. thanks!

i dont think the card is upgradeable. CPU of the same range with same chipset and pins can be upgraded but not much else.

if you wanted upgradeable then you might have bought the C90s which is designed to be upgraded.

I think Asus threw there MXM ideas into the garbage(except the C90S). I if you want upgradable graphics and more performance for the about the same price as your G1s get the clevo m570Ru.

The CPU can be upgraded up to the top of the 800MHz Penryn line of Core 2 Duo's, the RAM should be upgradeable to 8GB of DDR2 667MHz, and while the GPU is modular, it likely won't be practical to upgrade it.

Nahhh np just shove the new processor in the express card slot and the MXM module is trickier, you pull out the ejecting piece of the dvd reader and then you insert the MXM module into there ;)

No, penryn is not out yet. There have been demos of it, and recently preliminary specs were released. The first generation Penryn will be Socket P (that's what the P stands for), and will be drop in compatible with most current Crestline chipsets.

And yes, the T7500 is a Socket-P Merom.

    thx for the clarification.
so we can up our g1s' to Penryn (when they're out) and to 8 Gig ram?
and if we're gonna up the cpu the warranty would be voided right?

    thx
    sorry but one more thing..
why does the specs say that it would only go up to 4gb? is it because even a 64-bit os wont recognize it?

It's because it has only 2 slots for RAM, and no one makes bigger than 2GB sticks for it. However, the chipset should accept 8GB max if 4GB sticks are available (which probably won't be for a while, as no one will need more than 4GB on a notebook for a while).

    It's for one stick

I doubt there is 4GB sticks of RAMs yet though

Why would you need more than 4GB anyway? 2GB is fine today.

As for upgrading your G1S, you don't really need to, it will last you good few years. Sure there will be always new video cards and CPUs, but I got my Dell Laptop with Nvidia Geforce 7900GS, 2GB RAM, 2GHz cpu, 100gb 5400 rpm HDD and it works perfectly, i run most games on Max settings max resolution, for the exception of FS:X ofcourse.

So it will be awhile before your G1S gets outdated. By then there will be much better laptops that you will want to buy.
