What is the difference between these two models?

    Is X3-s RAM expandable?

Yeah they are BB exclusive models...yes its ram is expandble but you would need Vista 64bit to be able to use 4GB of ram...other wise, 3GB is the max for 2 ram slots :)

for bb models the warranty is usually one year, there are no bags or accessories, the res may be lower. compare the specs for both side by side.

A1 has a faster Processor and that's it typically.... I don't get why BB has lower speced machines?

thats the deal they stuck with asus. bb pushes cheaper models generally. if you go to their stores the majority of their display is old cheap stuff. well i guess it depends where you go.

It's almost all cheap stuff. The target market consists of families, not gamers.

ah, I guess that makes sense... But then, why sell this G1s at the store then? So anyone who actually buys on there has been suckered?

Basically marketing research, to see if there's a market for gaming laptops at BB. The Asus is not available at all stores, and so far, demand for it has been luke-warm.

Hmmmm... so they stick in a lower processor just to mark down the price a hair to see whether people would buy them... I doubt it though since most people don't even know who Asus is sadly....

The X3 only has 1 year manufacture warranty and no accidental warranty. Whereas the A1 has 2 yrs and 1 year accidental.

The X1 is on clearance, some reported that it rings up for $953 for the X1 at BB if you can find one in store.

g1s-x1 - t7300 processor - no laptop bag - no mouse - 1 year warranty - no accidental warranty (as ghetto cowboy stated) - all other specs of the machine are exactly the same as the a1 - i got mine for $961.99 (to me, the other stuff wasnt worth the extra $600)

g1s-x3 - no laptop bag, no mouse - same deal with the warranty - EXACTLY the same specs as the a1

so i dont know where all of this "cheap" talk is going - if youre referring to the price - then, yeah - its cheap - i got my machine (with 0.2MHz less processing power) for $600 less than a lot of people paid - and oddly enough, im getting higher 3dmark06 scores than a lot of those same people (im averaging 3900 with no oc)

typically - best buy doesnt sell high end equipment - but every once in a while, they have this freak occurrence where they will get REALLY good equipment - and fortunately, their clearance system is so bass-ackward, that there is NO human control behind it (once a sku goes into the system as "clearance" - the price drops automatically over the course of 30 days)

usually, the prices go down up to 75% off before the sku is pulled from their system (again, automatically) - i bought the thing at 1136.99 last week (the store had it tagged at 1399 and NONE of the employees even knew the price decreased) - i called in thursday and found out the price went down to 961 so drove in for my price match - ill keep calling back and once the price dips down enough to make it worth the trip, ill get another price match - lol

yeah - they sell xbox 360s, ps3', nintendo wiis and ds systems, ipods, plasma tv's, hd-dvds (and players), bluray dvds (and players), etc, etc - they sell tons of electronics

i thought everyone knew that lol

it looks like they have the g1s-a1 (or a version asus makes specifically for them with the exact same specs) - that ones at 1899

and it looks like they have the g2s also (the 17" version of the g1s with a 1900x1200 screen) - that ones at 2099

EDIT - keep in mind, though - im pretty sure they dont have those in-store - and i dont think you can return them to the store if theres anything wrong with it - those are online orders only, it seems

Meaning that they probably buy them from another reseller who sells it to them online?

^ i highly doubt that - im guessing its the same deal as best buy - asus makes the machines specifically for them - but im not sure if the "usual" demographic of target shoppers is into high-end gaming notebooks - so they sell them online only

EDIT - that would explain why you cant return it to a target store - im guessing the units arent in the target b&m computers

64bit OS's see more then 3.5 GB of ram.

32Bit OS's see up to 3.5 GB of ram, BUT the motherboard will see 4GB of ram , and allows the OS to use it, even if windows says only 3.5 is present.
