In the past there had been some benchmarks on real game performance of the G1S with 2GB memory and 3GB, and the difference seemed astounding (almost double the FPS). Is this true for any game other than FEAR (the game that was tested with)? Is it worth upgrading to 3GB memory?
Second question is, which driver currently is the best in terms of stability and performance? I don't go for 3DMark06 points but I'd like the best performing driver; however, I would like one that is very stable and proven. I do not mind losing abit of performance but I WOULD mind if I started getting BSODs. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

if u look at forums, incl http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125246 (search the thread)
theres lots of info on how much perf gain u get with 3gb. just remember that 2gb sticks are expensive so its up to you if its worth it.

drivers always get updated, so theres no single one to recommend. goto www.laptopvideo2go.com and look at their forum posts for drivers and see if ppls have posted that the driver bsod's. you can also go for the whql ones, which are very stable

I say go 169.01 they are new and work absolutely great for me. Plus it boost crysis performance alot.

I just put 3gb in my c90 vs 2gb I had, have not really jumped into a game yet to see if I notice anything plus the test wont be exactly the same since I have a 512mb card.

I think the 3gb ram helps the G1S so much because it only has a 256mb card and thats kind of low for todays games, so the extra turbo cache it gains when you increase system memory is very important.

Like I said tho with how cheap ram is now its about one of the biggest no brainer updates you can do for you computer and I would get it for the overall system boost even if your game fps doesn't go way up.

And download hotfix KB940105, it has something to do with large video memory and system RAM, I get a message says I need to install this hotfix after I installed the Crysis demo.

Yeah I have that already installed it fixes an issue where vista holds too much virtual ram for a game causing too much memory to be used it can cause stability issues and crashes but 98% of those are in high performance systems with very high settings so it shouldnt really effect any notebook user, but it cant hurt to have it installed.

Ken, were you the one that did the testing of the G1S? Can you do a comparison between 2GB and 3GB? I think I saw many threads around that were asking about the same thing. Thanks

Yes I am, but not all games take advantage of 3GB RAM.
I just finish install Crysis on a G1S with 2GB RAM, I don't have 2GB stick right now so I can't test it with 3GB RAM, but I'll test it sometimes this week.

anyone know of a cheap 2GB RAM that would work for the G1S at a reasonable price (i have no idea of prices for it) and how much could I get for the selling the 1GB RAM that came in the G1S. I've also heard of a dual channel thing with the two 1Gb, what's that? and will having 3GB be better than the dual channel 1Gb? Forgive me if I'm completely wrong

    thanks

Just went and bought myself my own 2GB stick. Too impatient when I suddenly get inspired to wait for others to do it. I'm using the Kingston ValueRam 2GB stick in one of the slots, model KVR667D2S5/2G, stands for Kingston ValueRam 667MHZ DDR2 Latency = 5 2048mb unless I'm mistaken. Recognized by Windows and BIOS. No problems so far. $119 CAD from local store www.memoryexpress.com probably cheaper elsewhere.

guys - this is going to sound like a lame question - but im a complete noob when it comes to graphics cards...

how the heck do i check which video driver i have?

under device manager - it says:

"Driver Version: 7.15.11.108" - which doesnt look ANYTHING like the drivers people are downloading (169.xx, for example)

under "Driver Details", i have the following:

    Provider: Unknown
    File Version: Unknown
    Copyright: Unknown

basically, i have no idea how to check which driver i have - lol...
