I read in older G1 threads the Asus G1S wasn't supposed to see more than 4GB of RAM? Maybe I'm late but..I just popped a 4GB stick in and it's recognizing it all! I'm rolling with 6GB of RAM! I think I'm going to go for 8GB.. I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and most current BIOS update (300).

Keep in mind that a lot of those "supposed to" specs are just based on what the ODM has tested based on what's available at the time of release, and this is rarely, if ever, retested by the ODM. It's not a guarantee that newer and larger sizes won't work, by any means, just a statement by the manufacturer that they won't guarantee anything higher

Ok so I should be good to go for 8 GB?

Like I said, it's not a guarantee (some older system BIOSes start getting finicky past 4 GB, so you might end up with just a hair more than 6 GB actually usable), but as long as you make sure your second 4 GB stick has a good return policy on it, you should be safe to try it

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
There was also an issue with a Vista update providing a way for Windows to "recognize" the full 4GB ram but the OS and BIOS was still only running 3.2GB.
I don't recall the release date on the G1 series 300 bios update, but it could be pretty old -- my suggestion would be to look through the BIOS page first and confirm that the system is truly seeing the full 6GB, rather than simply accept (if I'm interpreting OP correctly) what W7 is reporting in the system info section.

Clear - the issue you're mentioning is from 32-bit Vista. SP1 simply made it so that Device Manager reports the actual amount of RAM present (e.g., what the BIOS says), rather than the usable amount. Of course under 32-bit Windows, 3.2 GB is about all you'll ever get, but as far as we know, it doesn't do this "misreporting" in 64-bit, since 64-bit will pretty much use whatever the BIOS says is available, so if VL07 is running 64-bit, the full amount would be usable if it's reported as present.

Chipset itself is 64bit capable and can address more but its usually the BIOS that caps the amount of RAM you can put in.
