So I'm looking to upgrade the ram in my G1S. I currently have the stock 2gb. My first question is should I go for 3gb or the full 4gb? I will be sticking with Vista Home Premium. I'm running apps like After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, 3DS Max 9.

Also, should I upgrade all my ram to DDR2 800 from the stock DDR2 667? IS there any real world benefit from doing so?

    Lastly, ram choices.

    If I go for DDR2 800, I'm looking at going for the OCZ 4GB Kit - OCZ2M8004GK PC2-6400 DDR2 SODIMM - goes for $150 to $175 Canadian plus tax.

If I stick with just buying a 2gb ram stick, I'm looking at the OCZ (OCZ2MV6672G) Vista PC2-5400 2GB DDR2-667 which goes for $55 or so after rebate.

Okay, one more question, what can I sell either a 1gb stick of stock ram from the G1S for.

    Thanks.

3GB should be more than enough unless you deal with image files over 500mb in Photoshop etc. Keep in mind that if you do decide to go for 4gb ram, you'll need a 64bit OS. Your current OS is likely to be 32bit.
I don't think the G1S can utilize the 800mhz ram. It will still run, but will be underclocked to 667mhz. This is due to the mobo, but you should double check with your G1S manual.
You should get about $15-$20 for your 1gb stick of ram

I thought the G1S could use DDR2 800mhz ram at full speed but didn't only because it wasn't available at the time it came out. If I were to go to 800mhz ram (if the G1S took advantage of it) I think I would just go for the 4gb kit even if I will be using a 32-bit version Vista.

There's really no point of getting 4gb of ram if you are using the 32bit vista. Your computer will only register and use 3gb. The other 1gb is going to sit there and go to waste. If you're not planning to move to a 64bit OS, then you should stick with 3gb of ram.

Thanks, I guess I'll pick up the OCZ 2gb stick for $55.

Can anyone confirm or deny with 100% certainty that 800mhz (PC6300) ram cannot run at full speed on the G1S?

I do require the full 4gb and am on the virge of investing in 2x2gb sticks and would really like to know :D

Also, I'm new to the laptop world, but I'm an advanced (not expert though :p ) PC guy. I understand that the G1s takes SODIMM 200 pin modules, but what I'm not sure of is if this dual channel or not, as I have not seen any matched pairs floating around - and as a PC guy, just putting two random modules from different packages in a dual channel PC is something you just don't do.

    Cheers
