I'v recently just got the Asus G1S, and it rocks on most of the games that I have except Everquest 2. I am experiencing in-game shutter. I have 8600GT 256MB on my desktop and they both perform about the same in 3dMark and some in-game brenchmarks, so I downloaded CPU-Z and noticed the shutter is actullay caused by CPU downclocking from 2.2g to 1g.

(I open the game in window mode and then open the CPU-Z on the side)

I have tried to install the destop version of the display driver (Laptop2go will teach you how), the situation is much better, but I want a complete fix solution.

I have already tried to set use power manager to set High Performance and set everything to max, but the CPU auto downclocking still bugs me sometimes.

    1) Does anyone knows how to force the CPU to 2.2g?
    2) Why does the CPU auto downclock itself even I have already set to Highest Performance?
    3) Does the shutter cause by the display driver? or it is the CPU issue?

Any recommendation on a complete fix is welcome!

what program are you using? you might want to try rmclock and only turn on the highest multiplier for high performance.

Make sure you uninstall and clean the registry of Power4Gear

I use the Power4Gear and the Vista Power Management.

I also recommend RMClock if it's working with Vista.

You can force full performance with RMClock. Although the slowdown shouldn't be noticeable even if the CPU is set on Performance on Demand (Dynamic Switching). It might be a power4gear bug, give RMClock a try.

ok I uninstalled Power4Gear and installed RMclock. I turned off all the speedstep features. Yes, the clock is now forced at 2.2g, but I checked the log whenever the CPU temperature reaching 72C, the cpu clock will go down. I think it is cpu's overheat protection that it will downclock no matter what you do.

    Conclusion:
I notice the Asus is quite hot, so anyone knows how to keep the cpu cooler? I heard some people apply Coolermaster's NanoFusion on the cpu to help keep the cpu cooler. Does anyone ever try that on Asus G1 or G1S?

First thing to do to keep CPU cooler: undervolt. You can do it using RMClock. Look for a guide on the Guides forum.

However, like I said, the game should run fine even if the CPU switches the multipliers dynamically. I would say the stutter is due to something else, or the unit has problems.
